Yes it is better. Its keeps the seals in better shape, has less friction and makes it easier to start up in cold weather especially. You can put synthetic in both the tranny and rear end as well. Same reasons....

My truck has 200 000km on it, Just got it off the father in law and was wondering if I should switch to synthetic, I was told before that the benefits are minimal when there is alot of mileage.I am hoping to keep the truck for a while (5 years)

To answer the how long question

Well you can't just throw synthetic in yer engine and call it good for 7000 miles

You need to, at a minimum change out the filter OR use a extended life filter.

Even tho I use a high end K&N filter, I still change out the oil and filter at 5000.

My 2 cents
