I just installed my mopar remote start system, wasn't to bad. Took about 3 hrs going slow and following directions. Everything tests OK and it works for now, we'll see how it goes during the winter. I did install a switch on the horn wire to disable the horn chirp if I wanted. The horn chirp was annoying, one chirp first button hit, one chirp second button hit and one chirp when it started. Now I have the switch off and no chirps.

That's a decent deal considering it'll cost at least a $100 for the security by-pass alone. Actually, I didn't ask, do you have the gray key or just black? If the gray with the transponder chip in it, they need to install that bypass, hence the higher price.

I have the mopar remote starter and I'll tell you, on cold winter mornings the remote starter is way better than going outside to warm up my truck

I recommend Cicuit City or Best Buy. They always have deals, I got mine installed for $200. I of course have the black key so I didnt need the by-pass, I am 99% sure that all 03's had the black keys.

I also want the remote start with alarm. I talked to a local place. He said he could install a Viper alarm/start for $499 or one with a pager for $650. Seamed kind of high to me.
He said he had a Hornet system that I could install for $300. It had 1 pager, 1 reg. button, remote start and alarm. The price is better, but I'm going to do some more checking.

TD. I'd think twice before doing it yourself unless your real good with electronics. Check out Best Buy and Circuit city. Their prices are usually pretty good and the'll stand behind the install.
Thats very true. Not sure about thousands though.

Well at idle the engine wear is also increased greatly! That is why police cars are bad to buy later in life because they spend thousands of hours at idle.

The same thing can happen with the granny down the street that drives short distances to where the engine never gets to operating temps. Conditions like these can "gum" things up, like the valves and such. For most of us this is not a problem. Just keep your oil changed regularly, and use some fuel system treatment once in a while and you shouldn't have to wrry about it...

i usually do remote start/ keyless in the $300-350 range. 2-way alarm remote starts are $500-600. key bypasses can add $50-100. you should not attempt to install if you are inexperienced. the '06+ dodges use a single wire in the ignition to power the second starter and accessory by using differing resistances. messing that up causes all sorts of problems such as shifting issues. all newer dodges also have single wire locks requiring resistors and relays to interface. it gets complicated. trust the professionals.
