I recently bought a new '07 Ram QC 4x4 with a 4.7L SLT

It does not have the towing package, but it does have an oil cooler, is that normal, and is there a difference in the radiator or trans cooler or oil cooler in the towing package? It seems to me all you might be getting different is the extra 100 cranking amp battery and a tow hitch, possibly more radiator cooling or trans cooling, but the oil cooler looks identical...

Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

i have the same truck as you but with the tow package but i can't answer your question. if you'd like i could try to look at mine to compare something though.

 

I'll go out and take a couple measurements of the radiator and trans cooler, I'd suspect this would tell me something?

The rad. is 25 x 20 x 1.5

The Trans cooler is 20 x 5.25 x 0.75

I think the towing package comes with bigger gears also. I have the 4.7 with all the extra coolers as well but 3.55 gears. I think the towing package has 3.92's or 4.11's. Ask HammerZ71 in a PM he's pretty knowledgeable.

 

what i undertsood was that it came with:

hitch receiver
wiring harnesses ( 7 pin and the normal )
upgraded battery
upgraded transmission cooling ( my tranny cooler has an electric fan and is quite large too )
and the 3.92 rear end

i just wish they would come up with a factory brake controller thatwas dash mounted.

 

are you sure it's an oil cooler? i have the tow package on mine and it has the trans cooler and a power steering cooler.

emerald--you could be right...I didn't assume the trucks would need a power steering cooler, typically that stuff is in the realm of top end sports cars...I'll look closer. Thanks for the input!

a4twenty-- Is your trans cooler and fan mounted directly in front of your radiator?
You're right on the gears, I think. Nobody wants to tow a lot with tall gears so that would make sense.
I agree on the brake controller, that should be standard these days with a towing package.

 

I have the towing package as well but only the 3.55 gears. I do have the tranny cooler, class IV hitch and wiring harness though.
