Quad vs. Mega
ORIGINAL: rebelz99
QC all the way, don't hate me for what I say (mega owner's) I respect your choice but this is my opinion. If you need a family truck, get yourself a damn SUV, (Durango or grand cherokee) I just received my new 08 truck a 2500 QC long box and damn this thing looks like a truck compared to my old one 1500 QC short box. Sorry, but mega's should have never been made. Plus they look like !?!?!? Mega's should be made for women's with a damn lipstick in the ligther and , foget about it !?!?!?!?

I have been analyzing and re-analyzing this debate since the Mega Cab first started showing up in spy pics back in late '05. We are a family of 5 (wife +3kids), so this makes cab space a top priority. The biggest issues we noticed were the lack of a rear-center headrest in the Quad cab, and that lame floor mounted cupholder thing in the Mega cab that basically negates the use of the front center position. Keep in mind, 3 kids, so we have to seat 3 across the back in equal safety. Also, the front center position becomes more important as the only seating option for an additional passenger.
Visually, I like the quad cab better. Especially with about a 6-inch lift and 37s. They just look like a lifted pitbull with that short and wide stature. Mega Cabs look good too in this configuration, but to me they just look massive (which they are). Which gets to my other issue of parking, manuevering, etc. I live near Sacramento, CA., so my daily routine keeps me in the suburbs. We just came back from a trip to the local mountain area known for apples, pumpkins, etc, and even those farms out in the boonies had tight parking spaces. I kept thinking to myself...If I had a Mega Cab, would I be able to get in and out of here? Also, I do some mild off-roading about 2-3 times per year, and there is no way the wheelbase of the Mega Cab would work in those situations.
Plus, being 5'9, I really don't think my kids (twin boys 6, daughter 9) are going to be pushing much past 6' anytime soon. So, needless to say, for numerous personal reasons the Quad Cab got my vote. I still haven't bought a truck, and at this point I'm trying to wait out the decision until more details on the 2009 become available.

I voted on QC main reason i own one and i love it.I have had a numerous amount of people in my truck upto 6 people everyone sat comfortably. friends that have ext cab fords and chevy's always say they like how much room is in the back.I sat in the back seat and there was plenty of room. at first the mega cab looked goofy to me but i began to like the look of it. One thing i like about the mega cab is behind the back seat.I wish my back seats fold down. Also i am going to be a father of two soon and there is plenty of room for the car seat and baby sit with someone sitting in the back.
I voted for Mega Cab because I have one. Love the interior space. Kids love it. Have a Dakota and a 94 Ram Short bed. QC didn't seem to have enough leg room in them. I hunt with my buddies so I need more space in the back.
HansonHvac, I see everyone's point, but I don't see to many people hauling fifth wheels, and less 33 feet campers for a family of 5 on a short box. There will always be someone that doesn't like what you bougth, and I'm truly sorry that on this one, I'm that guy. I'd rather have my truck, and when it's family time we'll get a used SUV or something. If they find the utlity for the mega's well don't get bothered by what I say since to me its a passenger vehicle and not a work truck. And I want (need) a work truck.
I am a new megacab owner and I chose it for the leg room (both back and front) and the seats are more comfortable. Being able to ride 100 miles without leg, hip, and rear discomfort is a big deal for me and my parents (getting older). I sat in a QC and a Mega when looking for a replacement for my old truck (97 clubcab). The old truck was very comfortable to ride in, and the new one needed to be just as comfortable.
For over 25 years I've driven GM gassers. Back in 06' I decided to begin looking for a large fifth wheel camper along with a truck to pull it. I ended up with a extremely heavy 37' Doubletree fifth wheel camper and the Dodge Mega 3500 DRW. I have two teen age daughters that tote about half of their belongings with them on our camping trips. Our last trip was from New Orleans to Yellowstone and back. We racked up close to 5,000 miles in about 3 weeks time. What I'm getting at is that with all that time in the truck, the Mega cab provided us the most comfortable room available on the market. The kids had more leg room than my wife did up front, and the reclining seats only added to their relaxing. The only problem is that I can't swing my arm around to reach them when they're acting up!
The issue of a 6'3" bed is fine with me for towing, I installed a 16k Superglide Sliding hitch for the 5'ver. There is even plenty of room for a 50 gal.Transferflo aux. fuel tank
I also enjoy deer hunting in the fall and winter. A benifit of the Mega's flat folding rear seats is that a cavernous solid deck provides plenty of storage space for all my gear. (The 4 wheeler of course goes in the bed.) I don't know about the QC's rear doors opening angle, but the Mega's open at a 90 degree angle which also allows ample room for loading gear or large packages.
Driving and general handling of the Mega is fine, in that it's the same wheelbase as the QC. I just sacrificed some of the bed for more interior room. The Infiniti sound system sounds great, fills the cab just fine. I'm 6'1", and wouldn't mind at all travelling great distances in that back seat.
All in all, I suppose a person will get used to what ever they are driving, wether it's a Quad Cab, Mega Cab, or even a Reg. Cab. It's all personalbe preference, .........I'm just glad we live in a country where we have a choice, not some third world rat hole where all there is available is some 3 cylindercrappy put-put death trap!

Its all about what you want.I do think that the Quad Cab is small compared to other "true crew cab " pickups. I went with the Mega because I'm over 6' tall and most of my friend and hunting buddies are over 6' tall so when we go on long road trips I opted for comfort. Before I bought I rode in a friend Quad cab and it is just too cramped!!
