Default DIFFERENT TRANSMISSIONS?

Both my brother-in-law and I have mega cabs. I drove his 2006 1500mc recently and I noticed it shifted much differently than mine (2007 Dodge 2500 mc). Did dodge change in transmissions between 2006 and 2007. I swearour trucks shift differently and even compared tomy old 2004 dodge 1500 qc.

BTW, all of these trucks have the HEMI engine if that makes a difference.

If it is a new tranny, I can't say I like its shift points. Is this tranny any better than the old one? Assuming it is a different transmission.

The Tranny's are the same. The difference is the class. You have a 1500, he has a 2500. They have different options. Are your dif's different? That would show a major difference shifting! Also the 2500 is build tougher (hence the Heavy Duty tag). So it may shift the same but with the stiffer suspension would feel different when shifting. Possabily rougher as the suspension doesn't absorb the power change like the 1500 would. As an FYI The major tranny change was from the 05 Hemi's to the 06 and newer Hemi's. It was slight differences designed to work better with the MDS in the newer Hemi's. from 06 to 07 and 08it is the same tranny on all HEMI engines. Reguardless of class or style. YES their would be a major difference between your 04 and the newer trucks. Mostly for the change in the tranny to work with the MDS of the newer Hemi's. I'm not an experrt, Hemiyellow would know this better, but this is what i've found in my own research.

How YOU drive your truck, vs how HE drives his truck can make a difference....

Not saying this is the answer, but it's a factor. If he drives around town, and you use yours to haul a trailer or work equipment, then it's different.

Programming may be dofferent for an 2500HD truck as well, vs a 1500.

The gearing in the diff is not the same, nor the ring and pinion, the 2500 is a work truck with a more agressive shift patern in the automatic, the 1500 is going to shift more like a pssenger car.

I think the 1500 and 2500 mega cab are booth built on the 2500 frame, as I have never seen a 1500 mega cab with out 8 lug wheels.

Funny you mention that....

Recently, I saw a Mega-cab, with 8 lug wheels and 1500 on the door. In talking to the owner, he bought it new. It's rated at a class 3 weight rating, but still has the 1500 frame, just the big-boy suspension.

Not sure about the benefit, but ......................

He has the 1500 and it is built on the 2500 frame. We both drive the same ... but you may be right with the 2500 being a work truck and thus a work-like shifting pattern. We do have different differentials ... I have the 4:10. I think he has the 3:73?

If you have the 410 diff, than you should have the performance advantage over the 373, my 06 2500 reg cab 4x4 have the 373 and its not a drag racer, 80% of my driving is free way, so I went with a 6sp and 373

if one has 3.73's and the other has 4.10's then yea. . .theres gunna be a HUGE difference in the way the tranny shifts. . .and infact there is less wear and tearwith the 4.10 than the 3.73's. the engine is able to get rpm's quicker and put a little more power to the ground.

there should be about a 300rpm difference when in OD between the 3.73's and 4.10's.
