I'm new to the board and a new Dodge owner so i'll make this quick. I bought a brand new 07 Ram Quad-cab 4x4 w/ the 5.7 hemi last Sat. night. Things were going well until last night when I went out and decided to run a errand w/ my wife. Engine cranks up but the check light comes on. It has less than 250 miles on it and the light comes on. What's the deal? Has anyone had this happen to a brand new truck or is it just my luck?

Bring it into the dealer, they will scan the code and know what's up. If you are goingto have a part fail, there is a 90% chance it will do so in the first 1000 miles, could be anything from a bad sensor to a sticky valve. Odds are it's no biggie, and when replaced or fixed will never happen again. Hell, it could be that your gas cap is not screwed in all the way.

I can't find the right words that is going to make all the check engine lights, **** poor service from my dodge dealer, sqeaky front suspension that never is acting up when truck is in for service or the F...idget who failed to properly torque the bolts on the front diff of my 2500 Ram ( after I paid good money for new fluid in the diffs and transfer case )
The Ram it self is a dam fine truck, I say this after years of only owning Fords and thier horror stories.
Just when I thought my dealer turned the page for the better, they did not.
If its mecanical, electrical, and has coumputers and assembled by man, issues major or minor are going to occur with any brand.
Don't get up set over a check engine light, this is minor, reset the coumputer ( pull negative + bat cables from the batery wait five min, reconect) if light comes back, go to the dealer.
Hang in thier, I pay good money for my truck as well, and welcome to the board.

ok, thanks guys. Just needed to vent a bit. The dealer did give me a rental and got me out of there pretty quick and on my way so they could do their thing.

Yes, I have seen a few trucks and cars come in to our dealership in the past few weeks. I dont know the codes they had, but, the customers were in and out within 30 mins. Had one come in yesterday amd it just came off the truck with 3 miles on it.

I don't know about the rest of the country but here on the west coast, autozone will hook up to your OBD2 and scan it for free as long as you get there before dusk. It's the same as taking it to the dealer, just less turn around time involved. Depending on the code you can get it in the shop if you need to. Do NOT ignore/clear the code. For all you know it might be running lean and that's a serious problem. Check it out if for nothing more than peace of mind.
