Great question, unfortunately I don't have and answer, but it anyone does, please share. I have a 2007 and that chime is annoying as my wife's Toyota.

You can only disable the chime for when you're going down the road. The owner's manual tells you how to do that. The initial chime when you start it without your seatbelt on is unavoidable, can't be changed.

On my 05 the seat belt sensor was a closed loop sensor (sensor closed when the belt is plugged in) so all I had to do is unplug the connector under the drivers seat at the seat belt anchor point and put a jumper wire between the 2 terminals. However on my sisters 07 grand cherokee the sensor is an open loop system so all I had to do with her's was un plug the sensor. Now having said that I still reccomend WEARING the seat belt!

HemiLonestar, is correct. Check the manual. You can disable the chime, EXCEPT at start-up. I did mine. If you go through drive-thru's a lot, you need to do that.

friend of mine wrapped the seat belt around the back of his seat and buckled it.

but if you get pulled over that probably wouldn't be good.

My truck currently does not have the alarm or the start up chime for the seat belt but I don't know how it got that way because I bought it used with it aready that way. The light does stay lit but no alarms what so ever.
