Low Temp T-Stat

RE: Low Temp T-Stat
a low temp t-stat is a great mod IMO...a cooler running engine is always going to have prolonged life compared to one that runs 20+ degrees warmer....performance wise, by installing a low temp t-stat the PCM is going to advance the timing by 2 degrees i believe to compensate for the engine running cooler which can usually result in more performance....mileage wise, i would say that on my truck it has stayed the same or maybe went up slightly (like 0.2 MPG) so really no mileage gains on my truck.....it is very easy to install, just 2 bolts holding it in.....all i did was took the clamp off the upper radiator hose that was connected to the t-stat housing and let it drain into a pan under the truck, then removed the 2 bolts....put the new t-stat in and bolt it up (i didn't torque it with a torque wrench, just went by feel) put the hose and clamp back on and then either top it off with newcoolant or use a couple coffee filters and filter the old coolant that you drained (thats what i did cause i didn't wanna go buy antifreeze).....took about 5 min to replace the t-stat (less then that actually) and then a matter of filling it with coolant and making sure all the bubbles are out (fill radiator to top, leave cap off and start truck...let it run for awhile and keep adding coolant to it to work out all the air pockets and then your good to go)....good luck man

RE: Low Temp T-Stat
I have a stant 180 (35168)...if you buy a different t-stat, make sure it has th by-pass blocker on it (like the stock one)...but this really pertains to trucks in colder climates, out here in Cali guys with the short tstat don't throw cels cuz our weather doesn't get cold enough. i don't think the Jet one has a bypass blocker...I'm thinkin of movin to the 195 cuz I'm runnin a tad rich....
