Resonator removal on hemi

RE: Resonator removal on hemi
just looked under the truck real quick. it is raining so i could not get way under it. it looks like there is a "Y", then a giant tube that i thought was the cat, then a real small muffler. i am guessing that the big thing is the muffler though and the small muffler is a resonator? what's up guys? this thing is so damn quiet it is killing me. i dont want to take it to a muffler shop and give it to some dudes without us all being on the same page as to what is up under there!
since it only has 200 miles on it, i could probably do the damn job myself! clamps will come off easy as hell i would think.

If it is an 03-05 you only have cats, resonator, muffler in that order. Yank the resonator and the muffler out and do your exhaust that way, it will be loud. If you have an 06-07 it will go cats, resonator, muffler, resonator. The mds sound will drive you nuts if you remove both resonators and the muffler so only remove the last resonator furthest from the cab and the muffler. Hope that helps.

that helps a lot. made some calls. looks like i will leave the front resonator on. i'll have it taken apart at the joint before the stock 55 gallon muffler. everything taken out from there back, then put a single magnaflow, flowmaster or cherry bomb. i want to go single in and dual out. i'll have the outs run side by side and empty on the passenger side just before the rear wheel. a muffler shop just quoted me $230+ to do the job including the cost of the muffler. what do you think?

i talked to a guy at a shop a minute ago -he said you HAVE to use the flowmaster 50 HD. it is specificly for that motor. then i called magnaflow and they said that their mufflers are straight through and i will have no problems. back pressure is the only problem and he said that the cat will provide enough of that.

If you are going for just sound, then the flowmaster will be fine. I have heard the 40 is better though. As for performance and sound, you will want a non chambered muffler like an aero turbine or someothing of that sort. I went with the aero turbine at3030, removed the second resonator and had it dumped before the rear axle. Our motors do not need back pressure like older motors so open that exhaust up.
Here is a hemi with the aero turbine. This is what mine sounds like...just louder since it is dumped.
