performance and mpg gains
Ask your Dodge dealer what they use in your tranny & differential. Because they are SUPPOSED to use synthetics there already! As per Chrysler!
Everybody, and I mean everybody, acknowledges that synthetic lubes outperform conventional lubes. The only exception I have ever heard of is some aftermarket limited slip differentials call for conventional lubes because the synthetics actually lubricate so well they don't let the clutches build enough friction to operate properly. In other words the synthetcs lubricate too well!
They also cannot, by law, void your warranty ifthe lubricant you choosecarries the proper SAE certifications.

If you have, you can understand why it doesn't work as well in diffs.
the lady at the service desk told me not to use it and when i asked her why she called a mechanic over and he said he doesn't (and chrysler doesn't) recommend it. he said if i do decide to use it in the diffs to clean it out and dry everything off and then fill it. he said do not use it in the trans. he didn't give reasons.
i do have an LSD.

(DR) RAM TRUCK 1500
AXLE
FLUID LEVEL
(measured from the bottom of the fill hole)
FLUID CAPACITY
9.25 Rear Axle
6 mm (1/4 in.) ± 6 mm (1/4 in.)
2.1 L (72 oz.) - SAE 75W-140 Synthetic
Then do yourself a favor and find another dealer to do your service!
If they are using a non-synthetic based lubricant, then they, technically are voiding your warranty.
If you have a factory LSD the lubricant has no bearing. It's only clutch/friction based after market LSD's that recommend you not use a synthetic such as the Auburn Gear unit. Chrysler recommends adding 4oz. of Mopar Trak lok for diffs. with factory LSD.
Again, I cut & paste from THEIR service manual.
NOTE: The Trac-Lok feature is available on Ram Truck 1500 series rear axles. Trac-Lok
additives must be added to axles equipped with Trac Lok.
And as far as the transmission fluid goes, ask them what transmission fluid is stock in the SRT engines.
Answer: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF...
And remember, always believe your dealership:
I work with a guy who put a good size down payment on a '05 Hemi 4x4 for his son's graduation from college. When they were out shopping for it, the salesman tried to talk them into a CTD 4x4. When the son told the father that he couldn't see paying almost $10,000 more for the truck and then having it cost 40 cents more a gallon to fill it up, the salesman replied, "You can always put 87 octane gasoline in it and save money. Diesels run on either diesel or gas, you just can't put diesel in a gas engine. That's why the hole is bigger in a diesel gas tank, so you can fit either nozzle, but you can't fit the diesel nozzle in a gas tank." Needless to say, they got the hell out of there and bought at another dealership. Sad thing is, that's where I bought my Hemi the year before.
Yep, same place where I recently overheard the service manager tell a guy with an '03 with the dreaded "C-Clip Failure" that he'd never seen or heard of a rear end fail like that in a Dodge, and he doubted he could get it covered under his 7/70 because it was an obvious case of abuse. -- I was at the parts counter getting a pair of gaskets to do my headers. Couldn't resist, had to call BS on him.
True Stories...
OK long enough rant...
87 octane in a diesel??? wow technology must be steppin it up.
the mechanic told me to only use the ATF 4 or whatever it is for the dodge in the trans, no synthetic. he also said about the diffs (which are factory) if i were to use it he would do it ASAP (3000 miles) so the rear doesn't get used to ??? the dino oil and to be sure i used brake cleaner to get every last bit of old oil out to be sure not to cross contaminate (but he still didn't recommend it). he didn't say much about the engine oil but did say that they don't install synthetic in anything.
i don't buy his logic or BS. i think he might have been trying to prevent me from doing it myself and takin $$$ from their pockets. this is the first vehicle i've bought from them and first time for service.
on a positive note, the did hose my truck off when they were done. i guess that was their interpretation of washing it.

Someone else chime in here, I'm I crazy or does the Dodge Ram ship from the factory with Synthetic Lube in the rear diff, right? There is a TSB that calls for dealers to ONLY use SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Lube, correct?
I know I've been out of college for almost 18 years, but I don't think I've lost the ability to read.TopCop's service tech at his dealership advises him NOT to use it and further states that they Don't?
What the hell, when I got my Auburn LSD, which calls for conventional lube, MY dealership told me that if I did, it would void the warranty of my rear end. And his tells him theyDon't use it? I don't understand...
Understand, TopCop, I'm not disputing you at all, I'm just amazed that Chrysler's specs call for a synthetic lubricant here, and your dealer not only claims not to use it, but actually advised you not to.

As for mods (More In needs More Out) so you are on the right track with Intake and Exhaust. I agree with the Tuner train of thought also.
Umm, as for using synthetic in a motorcycle with a wet clutch…
I put synthetic in all my bikes, have been doing it for years.
Harley used to say the same thing “They don’t recommend it†until they started their own line of synthetic. Things that make you go humm.

I'd say a tuner will make the biggest difference, i gained about 3 mpg after adding mine. After that a good free flowing exhuast and a CAI You can do a search and find a ton of information on this.
