replace 4 Factor speakers with 7 aftermarked
Hey there,
Just getting a brand new dodge 1500 on monday. It has all the options i wanted exept for the upgraded speakers. It has the factor stereo with 4 speakers and sirius radio. I found these speakers http://www.crutchfield.com/S-loY45W3...351&tp=105 which would mount perfectly in the dash(it does have the cutouts there). Now to the question, can i connect these speakers to the stock head unit. Are the wires in place. What would be the suggestions for a decent sound system. I dont want or need anything over the top. Just decent sound at a resonable price. Thanks for any helpp.

Well on there website it says these speaker don't mount in this truck with the factor 4 speakerss, but the mounting holes are in place I just dont know if the factory unit can address them.
You would be better off just replacing the OEM head unit with an aftermarket unit. I use Alpine Stuff in all my Cars and trucks and it kicks ***. You stock speakers are not even being used to their potential with the oem unit.
Try Putting in an Alpine, it works especially great if you have an ipod becuase all those units are direct connect. You can find the new line of Alpine Units on Amazon.com.
Go to www.alpine.com to see what they have.
If your about to drop 120 bucks on speakers, just drop another 100 and you will have better all around sound

I'm now thinking of just getting componet 6x1/2 speakers for the front and mounting the tweakers where the stock once are located, will the stock unit be powerfull eneugh to power these speakersss?
jojo.... let me help you out here a little. You have the 4 speaker system. Which basically works of the AMP in the head unit. The infinity 7 speaker system has a factory amp to power all the speakers. Personally I had the 7 speaker infinity system. I wish i had the 4 speaker system. It is a pain to bypass the factory amp. Luckily you have the 4 speaker system. Simply get a good after market head unit. Now, You can use the stock speakers and wiring, but if you go after market GET AN AMP.... I have a full 5.1 JL sound system powered by 1 500/5 slash amp.... 500 watts powers10 speakers WELL! You said you just bouth the truck with everything you wanted.... do yourself a favior and build your system slowly. Buy the pieces as you can aford them... Start with the head unit... then get an amp and door/dash speakers... then get a sub and amp setup. If you go after market head unit you will need the Sirius box to go with it. It is about $70 and you can use the subscription you currently ave... you just change the receiver code by calling them.
My setup:
JL 6" Rear L & R w/ filter and tewters (4 total speakers)
JL 6x9 Front L & R w/ filter (2 speakers)
JL 3"Dash L & R w/ filter (2 speakers)
JL Center Channel w/ internal 90w amp Dash Center (1 speaker)
JL 8" Subs Under Rear Seats. (2 speakers)
Powered by a Kenwood DVD-817 w/ Nav & Sirius
and
JL 500/5 Slash Amp
Took me 3 months and i had to build it piece by piece...

Knowing what I know now. I'm thinking of just getting and and amp for the stock head unit, componet speakers for the front doors, keep the stock speakers in the rear door. Mount a sub under the center seat in the front. If i remove the seat the acctually part that you are supposed to sit on and mount the subwoofer in the box underneith the seat. Then just have the top part of the center console flip on top of that.
