Go with the lowwer gears you have more DEAD weight to get turnning AS for MPG Ha Ha you lost it all been down that road between the more rollingforce to get in going from a stoppushing more air around you'r truck you going to lose my old 4X4 gotten 15 to 18 MPG Stock after Lifting 37 inch tires on a 3/4 ton regeared it for the tires keeping my foot out of it mostly hwy driving I got 10 MPG no mather what.

I traded it in for this Dodge it been a good truck so far but I sure miss my Old 4X4, but I dont miss putting $110.00 a week in gas just to get to work and back.

Oh yea HammerZ71is right about the Axles there are good but if you going to do some heavy towing or heavy Wheeling they are not up to it the 37 or larger is to much leverage on the stock axles it will snap them off also you be going though bearings a lot more and the BRAKES will have problems also my 3/4 ton had a hard time stopping the truck and the brakes are twice the size of a 1/2 ton.

2002 dont have the best brakes in the first place either I heared that the 3/4 tons brakes will fit but thats what my old next door neighbortold me I dont know how true that is or not.

"stay away from 37" tires, our IFS front ends can't handle it. You'll be breaking front end parts all the time if you take it off-road."

What does that mean hammerz71 you dont have faith in your truck or ours? I think you are wrong i had 37" tires on my truck for awhile and never broke anything except front hub bearings wearing out have a little faith. 37" tires will not fit with the procomp lift i had a body lift with mine but i recently took it off to fit 35'sand you can get better gas mileage out of the 5.9 i had a supercharger on mine and was getting 16-18 mpg with 37" tires i also had 4.56 gears.
Unlike most, I actually take my truck off road, and have a group of about ten guys from around where I used to live in Ga. who ride pretty hard. We lease property to hunt and do some pretty heavy "wheeling" on it. Almost to a man, everyone who has broken front end parts (or entire front ends) has had IFS and larger tires, one hard head has had to re-do his front end 3 times after breaking something while driving in 4-Lo. Seems like if he's in a spot that needs 4-Lo, it's too much for his front end and next thing we hear is "pop", and we are pulling him out. Sure I have faith in my IFS front end, you can't beat IFS for ride comfort, and when used as designed, it's plenty strong enough. But it just wasn't designed for lifts and huge tires.

Faith may be able to move mountains, but it can't beat a solid axle...
