Looking to buy
Hey all. I have a 3rd gen dodge dakota, and Ive been working it to death. Its been great but I always wish I had a bit more room.
I was thinking about considering the ram 1500, gasoline, probablly the 5.7L hemi. My question is, I only buy new, and I see the sticker on these things are out of this world..
It seems the Ram 1500 i want is around 33k. Quad cab, 5.7l, most options, and of course 4x4.
What did you guys pay? I cant justify paying $33,000 on a truck I'm going to use to work, lol. It seems that there is some incentives on the 08s and even better incentives on the 07s, but thats still not really enough. 3k off on 33k is 30k...still alot of money IMO.
Is there an extended cab on the ram these days? Or is it just reg cab and quad cab? What did you all pay for your ram and what should I expect to pay?

RE: Looking to buy
New to the forum and to Dodge's for that matter. Bought my 07 QuadCab Ram (Hemi) 2 weeks ago with 30 miles on the meter. I went from an 02 GMC Sierra with 180,000 miles on it (bought new) and after putting 2 transmissions in it that nice lifetime powertrain warranty got me into the Dodge dealership, seeings how I average 30 to 40k miles a year. My trucks sticker was 35k (Only 4x2 though) and after some wheeling and dealing with the salesman (about 2 weeks worth) we settled at 24k even out the door. The best resource I found that actually got me another 2 grand off the sticker was taking a price from edmunds.com to the dealership, he got it 500 below that and I took it. So far I am very satisfied with the truck. The GMC dealership couldn't touch the price with something comparable, and honestly after doing a little towing, the Ram has put my old Sierra to shame. Obviously with the amount I drive (work related) time will tell if it was a good buy for me, however I just got back from 1400 mile round trip and the comfort level is a lot better than my old truck, plus the gas mileage was a touch better also.
That's something else to think about going from your dakota. The Hemi Ram's aren't made to save gas. I'm getting about 12 mpg around town and 17 mpg strictly highway so far. That doesn't really effect me as I'm used to a gas hog in the first place, but going from a smaller truck it may be something to worry about.
But, other than that, sit down and really think about what you NEED, and not what you WANT. I've seen too many of my friends go for these bigger trucks just to say they got one, and then a year later go to something smaller b/c they couldn't afford the payment or gas or both.

RE: Looking to buy
I posted this before but will put the link again. This site is the best for giving tips on buying, rebates that are out there, and scams that some dealerships run. Even if you are not planning on buying a vehicle right now good to look at.

RE: Looking to buy
Ordered a QC 4X4 this past week, they came down 8K without any negotiating. They came in at $29,800 set up the way I wanted (side curtain air bags, electonic stability program, 20" wheels, LSD, 34 gallon gas tank, tow package, popular equipment group. Pretty well set up for what I thought was reasonable money.
