While I don't get that cold mine survived a Virginia summer which is usually in the 90s through July and August.

What are the benefits of this tuner? I'm having a hard time convincing myself it's worth the $400. So far all I've done is put a K&N air filter in her, she's getting a new exhaust system Wednesday (Flowmaster 50 HD 1 3" in / 2 2.5" outs.) I've read on the internet a performance gain and more torque, but is there really any other reason for it?

2-3mpg better. If you look at it this way if you drive 12000 miles in a year you will pay off your superchips off of gas savings alone.

Well I drive 35,000 - 40,000 a year, so yeah I guess that would be a decent investment...
