Is the 4.7L engine any good in a 2002 Ram 1500 quad cab?

thank you for all of your help. I think I may pass on this one and test drive a few hemi's and even the f-150's again. I had the 7.3L powerstroke and loved it. Then I sold it and drove a f-150 with the 5.4L and it had no ***** at all. I'll let ya know what happens

If your talkin' 5.9 gas (360 CI) the Hemi has about 100 more HP stock, yet gets 20% better gas mileage.
I've had both and the 5.9 is bulletproof, but on performance, the Hemi is clearly in another league...
I had a 97 5.9 4x4 and now I own a 03 hemi 2wd and there are really in 2 different leauges. The hemi is really quick for a stock truck. My buddy drove one, I told him not to....and about a month later he owned a brand new dodge,1st time ever owning a dodge.
hahahah the CTD will literally tear apart any powerstroke diesel. It don't matter that it's only got six cylinders in fact it's actually better. because to get the displacement outta six cylinders they made the stroke of the cylinders way longer than compared to the duramax and powerstroke. that's why the CTD is the king of low end grunt torque. I think they hit 610 lb ft at like 1500 rpms. not to mention they last forever. 300k plus sin't a problem. they are reliable as well. just because ford and chevy have eight cylinders don't got anythign to do with which one is better. the better mileage of the diesel engines to gassers doesn't come from that the cummins is only six cylinders. It comes from teh compression ratios that diesels have. they are way higher than a gasser which allows less fuel to be injected per cycle and still getting the same power. therefore better mileage.

I'll look into that. The CTD is only a 6 cylinder right, gets a little better gas mileage then? Still got the getup and go like the powerstroke?

I ended up in a Ram after driving a "300hp" 5.4 liter Ford that felt like only half of those horses were showing up for duty. One test drive in a Hemi-equipped truck made up my mind. I like GM's powertrains (my old truck was a 92 GMC ext cab 4x4) but they just look so bland. So, Dodge it was!
Quite a coincidence....I just bought a 2002 1500 QCSB SLT (2wd) one owner with 75,000 miles - paid $9900. Truck has the 4.7L and I absolutely love it. Took a trip from Georgia to Mississippi two weeks ago and got 18.9 mpg roundtrip. Not bad considering the city driving in between and the hill country in NW Alabama. The 4.7L seems to have quite enough power for such a large vehicle. Don't know about the 4WD, but I would think that the 4.7L would be more than adequite. I owned a Chevy Blazer with a 5.7L (350 ci) for years and I can tell you that this 4.7L has just as much punch as that Blazer ever had, with muchbetter gas mileage. I don't think you will go wrong if you buy the truck. The average retail for that vehicle is probably in the $16,000 range. It is over $14,000 for my truck. Good luck.
