Synthetic Oil
This would be my first time using synt. oil, I was thinking of going with the Amsoil 10W-30 Motor Oil (ATM) brand. Is there any other suggestions? Also on the ams site they say an oil change on severe driving would be once a year or 15000 miles (24000 Km), with reg oil every 3800 miles (6000 Km), is this even good or shorter intervals are better? If the info is correct, why are people complaining about the price, overall with the above info, there is approx. (max) 20 bucks diff..
This is where I need info, I've got a 2008 2500HD Hemi with 1864 miles (3000Km) will change my oil at 3000 miles (5000Km).
Do I need to drain the orig oil first with draining oil or just do a regular oil change without special draining? Is this brand recommended for canadian winters? Are Amsoil filters good or is there something better?

RE: Synthetic Oil
first off... canadian winter= 5w-30..... i would reccomend using amsoil though it is a great oil.. i still do the same intervals as reccomended by the manufacturer (dodge) every 3k.... amsoil will prolly outlast that no doubt in my mind but i would rather keep putting fresh oil in there... my dads buddy just swaps the filter and adds a quart than does a full oil change once a year.. i would rather just do a normal oil change no sense in "cheapin out" i heard amsoil filters are good.. i use a wix personally..

Go with Amsoil or Mobil1 5W30. As for the interval, you will find many different opinions on that, so do what makes you confortable...personally I use mobil1 syn 5W30 in my '96 saturn, '03 Tribute and '05 Ram 1500 and I change oil twice a year - jan and july...my saturn just recently got 711 km on 42 litres of gas (47.8 MPG imperial gallons or 5.91 L/100KM) so not only does synthetic oil keep your engine young, it also increases gas mileage.

I run wix filters too, but if you want to do more than 7500 mile oil changes go with the EAo filters. Im running all Amsoil and my truck sees towing 4000lbs atleast 2 days a week and race duty every saterday, so far I have 3000miles on the xl and ill probably be sending it off to be tested soon to see how its held up to all the stress.

thks for the replies, on the mobil site they suggest the 5W20 oils (not 5W30) Also if the car sales rep is rigth I have the damn MDS system on my Hemi (on a 2500HD???) Should I go with what is recommended by the site and they suggest fram or purolator filters (should this be rigth)??????
They sell mobil products at the local parts shop but not amsoil, so I guess it would be less of a hassle to buy Mobil.

About the MDS s##t, I see no info saying that the 2500 and up have this piece of junk, they just have the plain normal hemi, Cannot say how happy I am rigth now, 1500 with hemi's have it (no choice), now I'm just waiting for the flashpaq to come out with the update, that the exhaust, and CAI manufacturers come out with the rigth info? I guess i'm at the waiting game, no one seems to be able to advise me on some mods since its to new and no testing have been done!!!!!!
