I have a 1996 Dodge Indy Ram and the 360 Magnum engine just isn't doing it for me so I was looking into the 5.7 Hemi, I know all I would need is engine mounts, wiring harness, accessories, and tranny for plug and play, at least I think so. I got a bit ambitious however and want to know if a 6.1 is possible since the 5.7 is plug and play couldn't I swap in the 6.1 as well?

 

i have seen 2 6.1 hemi's in the ram but they were both third gens... i never seen a hemi in a second gen... i think it would take quite some time and effort.... do you have the knowledge to do this yourself or are you takin it somewhere...? this kinda thing ain't gonna be cheap but if you have the money to do it might as well get the 6.1 and work the heck out of it before you drop one in.....

I can do it myself, I have been in school being trained as an auto technician for about a year now and graduate soon, at my school it is a shop, not a classroom we get live cars with real paychecks. I have done a few engine swaps and tranny swaps on my own with supervision of the instructors, I believe that the 5.7 would be incredibly easy when you think about it , I just want to know what more will it take for the 6.1?

 

I have spoke with a guy that put a 5.7hemi in a 2001 Durango. So I'm sure it can be done. If your gonna do it might as well go ahead and drop in the 6.1.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

yea like i said before i never seen it in a second gen... i would contact them about questions considering they sell all kinds of stuff for hemi's including motors and wiring.... give em a call....

 

I will, for now it's research time, I am getting bashed left and right by guys because I own a dodge and I know we all go through it but I want to own people like that. Now the real question, will you guys embrace me as part of the 3rd gen group?
