Just when I'm really PO'd with Superchips they do this!!!
Been really PO'd at Superchips for some time now. Without going into it, you can read some of the reasons in TDMOPAR's thread.
Now I get on their forum and the Calibration Team announces they just figured out how to ditch 2nd Prime!!!!! For those of you who don't know, it's the weak link in our auto trannies. 99% of 3rd Gen. blown trannies is because 2nd Prime fails.
The fix is out for '07's (it's about time they did something for you '07 guys) and should be out in an update for us '04-'06 guys in a few days. (Sorry TD, no fix planned for '03's)
This is REALLY big for any of us who are up in the 320/330 RWHP range and higher, as blown trannies are a real concern when HP (or Torque) numbers start to get upwards of 20% or so over stock!
It was REALLY gonna be a big issue for me when I add that custom ground KRC 210 cam I'm getting!!!

hmm.... well words are words... i dont trust a word they say anymore... im waiten for my tuner to come back with like the wrong program or something...
yeah, 2nd gear is the passing gear, and 2nd prime is the primary gear..could be vice versa but pretty sure thats they way it is considering the ratios of the two
2nd gear is 1.67:1 ratio
2nd prime is 1.50:1
2nd gear is 1.67:1 ratio
2nd prime is 1.50:1
This is cool news--but even better news woud be a way to make it a true 6 speed auto...
Even if it would be better to swap out 2nd and/or 2nd prime with a new gear or gears this would be cool IMHO.
What is it about the 2nd and 2nd prime gears that is weak? Is it simply the act of shifting that breaks parts?

I don't know the technical jist of it. I know that the more gearhead forums (Bionic Dodge and Dodge Talk) guys have been bitchin' about 2nd prime virtually since this tranny hit the market.
If you do a search over there I know there are specifics. The one thing I was warned about at KRC Performance was that as I approach that magical 320+ RWHP or even got a real torque beast cam like the 210, bustin' 2nd prime was gonna be an issue if I pushed it.
I wasn't overly concerned as my truck is a 4x4 and I am looking for more grunt than speed. Now I know the track guys are bustin' trannies all the time.
I also know all the gearheads warn specifically about hitting WOT from like 40-50 mph, like when passing, supposedly they can guarantee 2nd prime will explode in this scenario if you've modded enough to have the HP. I really don't know enough of the inner workings of an auto tranny to know why this is worse for it than WOT from a dead stop, but I've read enough warnings & horror stories that I believe it.
I had the oportunity to see an '05 2wd Hemi at KRC dyno'd and with the EXACT SAME mods as me (CAI, wires, exhaust, LT Headers, Ir plugs, e-fan, etc.) only thing I lack yet that it had was the KRC 210 cam, springs, retainers & damper. I can't remember exactly, but it either dyno'd 370 or 390 RWHP and they were giving the guy the option of rebuilding the tranny with more bulletproof parts now, or waiting till 2nd prime blew up to do it.
Judging from those numbers, I must be close to the "danger zone" of killing my tranny, and definately will be after I do the cam, cause I'm getting the exact same parts that 2wd had!
