Has anyone here actually had their tailgate stolen? or is this purchase of a tailgate lock, being a little paranoid?

Before i go out and spend money for something like this, i want to make sure it's necessary.......................Actually, I really don't see why it's necessary to go out and spend additional money to protect what's mine..........I really feel, that if a idiot wants to risk his life for a tailgate, then 5 ROUNDS FROM A COLT MDL 1911 IS WHAT HE DESERVES.

It takes about 15 seconds to steal a tailgate. I used to hear about it all the time, but I haven't heard much about it lately.

it hasnt gone away.... people still do take them... i'd rather have the tailgate lock and not worry about anything than have it taken one day.... if you dont see why you should spend money on protecting whats yours than why do you have a gun?

Yeah, i wouldn't want to come out and find my tailgate gone. But, on the other hand, I'm wondering if this is such an issue
(First time hearing about it) then why wasn't it installed at the factory?
When i purchased my vehicle, a alarm was an option i chose. Why wasn't the tailgate lock another?
As far as protecting mine. Well, i feel like this...and i feel strongly about this too....I respect other peoples property, if it's not mine then i don't touch it.....Period....I don't care if you're blue/green/pink/ or from another planet...I think any man, who takes the chance of going onto another man's property, to take his tailgate, must be a complete moron.......Why risk your life over a tailgate..
For example, the other day in an area about 1 hour away from me, some guy and his buddy, jacked up another man's vehicle in an attempt to take his wheels....They got the front and rear wheels on the drivers side off, but guess what, the owner came out with his semi-auto....and well, you know the rest ...He won't be taking anymore tires......

I have the Roll-N-Lock cover on my bed. Great thing about it is that when you lock the cover it locks the tail gate closed. It is pouring out so can't get pics right now but as soon as I can I will. This is a veryexpensive way to get the tailgate locked but offers the advantage of a b ed cover that you don't have to remove (if in your case like mine you have dogs this would have to be done constantly) to put stuff securely in the back. Company that installed mine said the company that makes the cover guarantees it for life against theft. Guy also said he has never seen one that someone actually got into, couple that people tried.

My buddy parked at a Park and Ride while we went to a WVU Mountaineer game last Thursday. When we got back that night his unlockedF150tailgate was gone. I do not live an a "big city" by any means, so it could and does happen anywhere.

Does the Pop & Lock power work with the internal mechanism of the stock, non-locking handle?

Looks to me like it just blocks the mechanism:

Yes, tailgates still get stolen! A car dealer in West Texas told me he had 10 stolen at one time last month. They even hada customer's05 Dodge that had the hood stolen over the weekend. Like all security, putting a lock on it is going to make a thief consider finding an easier target rather than standing there diddling with your truck and increasing the chance of getting caught. I have the Pace Edwards electronic lock and it works great.
