Locking Tailgates
I have heard that it was common practice in some cities for people to steal the tailgates off of trucks. Was this just a fad or is this still a prevalent thing? What would be the best way to lock or protect the tailgate from being stolen (less taking the thing off myself).
cheap way is to use a hose clamp(worm drive style) around the hinge side with the opening -just put the clamp around the hinge and titen when on the truck--the tailgate will not come off with out removeing the clamp
a company called pop lock makes locks and they are available at many mailorders.... i have one on my truck (it came with it) cant complain... real easy just an extra key to carry with ya...

or you can order an auto locking lock. It locks when you lock your doors. I found one on Ebay but i can't remember how much it was.

I have an power tailgate lock and I find its the best for the climate around here, locks and unlocks with the doors (so no need to think about it). No extra key, no frozen ketch in winter. I beleive it cost me 80 buck's, also I feel a little more secure with the lock when I have my dirt bike in it. He's got to break in to unlock the tailgate. For me, its worth, Been using it since 04 and just transfered the same kit in my 08.
who makes that power lock you have? i've been thinking about one myself. was looking at the poplock ones, but don't want the key (i carry so many damn keys).
