Default New Stereo Install

Just installed an aftermarket headunit in my Ram on Friday. I have to say, it does improve the overall sound of my system a ton. I was on the fence for awhile after installing aftermarket speakers and a few subs. I finally took everyone's advice on here and went for the headunit as well. I picked up an Alpine CDA-9811 from a friend of mine for $50. The install kit and harness ran me like $50 as well, but when its all said and done it looks and sounds great. I will grab some pics for later I just didnt have my camera on me.

The stereo was the first upgrade on my 07. The stock system lasted less than 1 week. After getting a new headunit, 4 speakers, and an amp installed, it made the stock system sound like a 1980's Kraco radio from K-Mart.

I have the factory installed entertainment center overhead. I can play the sound through headphones or switch to the speakers. My question is, will putting an aftermarket head unit in make it so I can't switch between the two? Just installed the iPod attacment that attaches through the plug I installed in the glove box but wouldn't mind a better head unit I can plug my iPod directly into. Problem is I talked to a guy (will be doing my remote start) and he said I may lose the DVD speaker aspect if I change head units. Thoughts?

yeah, i think thats right. i am not a car audio guru, but i majored in broadcast specifically sound. if your head does not support a 5.1 or 7.1 surround input, and cant convert it to your truck stereo output, it may not work at all, and if it does, there will be a serious loss in audio.

Its amazing how much a head unit adds. Even with factory speakers it improves the sounds drastically....

Ok ... I can't find my digital camera ... so here are some bad cell phone pics. My coworker has a sweet camera but he is out of town until Wednesday. I will get some better pics then.
