I just switched to Amsoil a few weeks ago and plan on changing every 15k unless the oil goes bad. Its rated to go I think 1 year and/or20 or 25k under light driving condions and 15k under heavy (I drive in light conditions). I bought their oil filter that is suppose to go just as far as well.
So far I've only put 500 miles on it after the switch but I plan on checking it often. I cant see spending around $70 with shipping to change the oil every 3k. I aint that rich. If the oil will not last as long as stated then I have been lied toand simply will not get it anymore.
I may change it out at 10k since this is the first time using it to see how it has held up.

I would recommend doing one normal cycle oil change with the new synthetic before you go to the extended drain cycle. The reason for this is because synthetics are very efficient at cleaning the inside of the engine, and the first time around, you would be doing a cleanup.
Then change it again for the extended drain cycle, this keeps you from possibly overloading the filter/s over the long cycle
I see. You have me convinced. After reading a little bit about the test on Mobile 1 and AmsoilMr. Dusty provided us a link to I may switch to Mobile 1 next time since I can get it at walmart and dont have to pay for shipping. I was surprised to see Amsoil viscosity increase from 5w-30 to 15w-40 at the end of their test. That ain't no good.
I'll probably change at 5k, maybe sooner. I havent read the manual in a while but even with conventional oil under normal service it says I can go up to 6k I think although I always changed every 3k. Thanks for all the input and info!
Side note: my username drhunter is my first and middle intial followed by my last name. I do not claim to be a doctor at anything lol. I love hunting & fishing though so it fits me well
