Cleaned out my throttle body today...

RE: Cleaned out my throttle body today...
Very easy. Take off the throttle body, 4 bolts holding it on, unplug the connection to it. Clean it really well with brake cleaner and Q-tipsuntil its shiny and put it back on. Before I put it back on I cleaned out the inside of the intake where the TB attaches to. I didn't spray the cleaner into it I just sprayed it out to a clean towel and wiped it down real well. Took off my CAI tube andsprayed the cleaner intoitto clean that out as well. Attached everything back and started her up. I recommend replacing your PCV valve at the same time if you havent done so allready, I did mine about 4 months ago.

Yes, there's a specific TB cleaner, but even Chrysler says not to use it. Brake cleaner is the recommended cleaner. It's probably cheaper, too. Yes, the TB is very easy to clean and it makes a significant difference. I may clean it again when my TrueFlow intake goes in next weekend. Mine wasn't as bad as some pictures I've seen, so maybe the PO had it done. The 4.7 must have a PCV valve. I seem to recall a picture of it in the customary place (top of driver's side valve cover). I cleaned the one on my Hemi and put it back in. Will replace in the next cycle.

So what is it that is making all these throttle bodies so dirty?
Just think about it, it doesn't see fuel, so it can't attach dirt and grime from intake air and fuel wetted throttle body surfaces, and even if it was, the intake air is filtered at least to a "good" level, so grime shouldn't build up terribly.
To impede airflow to a noticeable butt-dyno level takes a lot of intake constriction.
Is there something I'm missing?
