I would never hook up an aftermarket radio in a newer generation vehicle without buying the adapter. It saves so much time and eliminates the problem you are having now. Start over and buy the adapter. Its available on Crutchfield.com or go to your local Best Buy or Circuit City.
Oly problem being that if he cut the wires from the stock connector too short. By the way, I did my radio no problem without an adapter
. If you can't get the stock connector together, what year is your truck I have a a wiring diagram for '02-'05.

I'm not sure what the particular wire is for your year/model, but I'd highly recommend hopping over to Radio Shack/Wally World/etc. and pick up a cheap multimeter so you can find out which wire is +12VDC only when the key is turned to ON. You shouldn't have to worry aboutchecking too many wires- most standard radios have 4x pairs of +/- for speakers, 1x antenna line, 1x ground line, 1x "always on" 12VDC line for the clock/presets, and 1x "ignition/ON" +12VDC for primary power... Once you've eliminated the usual suspects you shouldn't have much left, other wires may be present for power antenna, remote amp control, dash dimmer control, etc.

in the 06+ dodges there is no switched 12v wire in the radio harness. keyed power on these years is controlled through the can-bus system, so to get switched power you need to use a can-bus module or tag power somewhere else. there is usually switched power on the left cig lighter below the radio, i believe it's a pink/yellow wire. hope this helps!
