I might have a dilemma going with maybe trading my truck. I have a 2006 reg cab 3.7 st. I have added a chrome grille, 20's, power door locks, sub/amp/deck etc. A local dealer has a 2003 Slt Hemi reg cab. My truck has 8,500 miles and theirs has 20,000. The price of the truck is 12700 and KBB on thetrade value of my truck is 12100 although I just remembered I forgot to put my tow package when I did KBB so I may be closer to straight trade. I don't mind the v6 most of the time but I would much much much rather have the Hemi obviously. Everything sounds good so far but the problem is that I think the truck is a longbed. I haven't seen it in person yet but from the pics it looks like a long bed and I don't really like the longbed. So is the SLT package and Hemi enough to offset my dislike for the longbed. Your thoughts?
Just remember that the KBB value is just that, a book value. It is not set in stone and a guarantee of what they will give you. The actual value is market driven and is probably lower than you are thinking. And what is wrong with a long bed truck? I think it is the only way to go. Good luck. Red
Yeah my 3.7 got 13 on my last fill up which is the worst it has ever gotten so I don't think gas is too big of a deal. I just think that the bed looks too large for the truck on a long bed. I don't know why but it bugs me especially on a reg cab. I wish I was at home because I could post a pic of my truck and a pic oftheir truck but I'm at work and it's slow so I'm looking at trucks. On the market value, Yeah I know how it works as I sold cars for a few months after I finished college while I looked for another job. The dealer I worked out basically just took the book price on a trade and dropped it by some. If book was 10k he would say start them at 8500 and we would hope that they were dumb and say ok.
The trade is good and so is the price. The only problem is that the dealer IS going to make money on this deal. Don't expect to get an even trade. Even though kbb says your truck is worth $12k, if you are buying a truck that is listed at $12k, you will probably get a trade in for around $8 or $9k. You still will have to come out of pocket for something. As far as gas mileage, if you got 13 mpg on your truck, expect to get that or even better with the hemi. Good luck on the trade and when you get home, attach a pic so we can see what you are looking at.

Just so you know it is the long bed. L and R is right, don't expect the dealership to do a straight trade, they are going to ding the book price of your truck. I would do it if you can get them to a decent price for the trade.
Yeah it will definitely depend on the trade and if I can handle the long bed. I'm not going to get completely screwed on a vehicle I have owned for a year with only 8.5k on it. So if I'm going to get screwed too bad then I will just keep my v6 and add power windows and a few other things. I had almost this samedilemma before when I bought my truck as I had a choice between a 2006 4.7 long bed and a 20063.7 short bed both in my price range. I went with the short bed but if the 4.7 was a hemi then I may have went with it. I have always been a more all show no go guy as my previous vehicles werea1983Jetta Diesel before the turbo, 1992 Dodge Ram 50 4 cylinder, 2001 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder, 2001 Honda Civic 4 cylinder, and now my ram but I'm kind of wanting some power now.
