these installs are awesome! look clean and professional. i just got a couple of questions
how do you guys get audio out form the computer to the amlifiers? does this require software and special hardware for the computer?pictures would be great of the audio hookups from the computer to the amplifiers.

I used the on-board 5:1 sound, I used these but in radioshack brand at about $5 a piece http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

It's slightly messy, but has been cleaned up a bit since..

I think this is a very good thread and install write up but why didnt you just get a Xbox 360 with a 120HDD and a Pioneer AVIC model. You would have come out with less work, less money and less mod time, more performance and potential power to expand. Granted you wouldnt have a 10" screen (kudos for that tho because Ive never seen it). You could still get internet and wireless, play many media formats and more storage space as well as add a 16/32gb flash drive. You could still do 5.1 and GPS. I think its great really but thats a lot of time involved. But all in all, no one will have a truck like yours. What alarm do you have on it BTW?

well...first, I went with the 12.1" touchscreen (not the 10), and that setup would have cost quite a bit more than I spent. When you consider that I got the touchscreen for less than $100 and about $30 on fiberglass, bondo, paint, etc and am using an old laptop that I had hanging around the house...

Also, with the 360, unless you mod it, you do not have a web browser. One of the main reasons for me to have a computer in the truck is for me to be able to print off paperwork that I get from my works intranet. I also have a small (very small) printer that i will be adding.

Finally, can you hook a wireless broadband card to the xbox directly? I did not think you could, but I am not sure.

Yes you will have to mod the xbox if you wanna play custom games and add software. Im not sure about the wireless KB but I do know you can do the hardwired.

Modding the 1st gen Xbox is all software based and you do not need to open the box up (unless you want to add a bigger HDD)

Modding the 2nd gen Xbox does require you to open it up and flash the firmware on the DVD drive.

Either way I see your point about having the parts around to do what you are doing. I certainly think it is a great job your doing and looks great.

Nice work,
I thought of doing something like this myself, But laziness took over and I just got a cheap Aftermarket cd player and speakers.
