Random Blinking "Lamp Out"....
Hey guys, I know this is simular to a post a week or so ago, the guy had "ABS" lamp randomly blinking on and off... I posted this question in that same post but to no avail. Everynow and then my "Lamp Out" light will flash quickly with that famous ding, sometimesit happens so fast its just the ding, andno light. It comes and goes and it seems when it does it, it will do it 3-5 times and then wont happen again for a while. I figured it may be a short or broken wire, I had my wife in the truck and i attempted to wiggle all the wires the best I could w/o removing the housing, also tried getting it to happen my signaling and flashing while parked I can NEVER get it to do it.... I know the "Lamp Out" warning works properly because a couple months ago I had a tail light go out and the warning worked correctly. Thanks for the help in advance.
could be the bulb itself ... i had one that was causing that and i looked at it carefully and it was the filament constantly breaking and then regaining contact inside the buld itself ... they're cheap dude ... just replace 'em

3rd Gen trucks are prone to having the taillight socket strip go out. Is very common. Take off your taillight and then remove the 4 screws that hold the strip on. Remove the bulbs and look for any burned or black areas on the bulb baseleads or in the socket it self. The bulb usually has a melted area on the base and the terminals in the socket are usually black. Replace it with part # 55077343AD. They retail for $19.00 each side. Dodge sells an average of 939.76 of these each week. These are on all 2002-2006 Rams. See #6 in the pic below for the part I am talking about....

Well I took apart both of the rear tail lights today, I found one socket on one of the bulb rails that was a little black and it had a cheaper bulb in it with smaller blades that were also blackened. I scraped the black off of the socket and replaced the bulb with a good sylvania. So far havent had a repeat but it would come and go before so, i guess I will just keep my fingers crossed. Thanks alot Parts/Service!!
I had the same thing about a month ago. I took out all of the bulbs and one had some discoloration on the seat of the bulb, replaced it and no problems since. It sure is nice not to have that ding going off all of the time.

Sorry to bump up this older thread, but I have the same Lamp Out warning chime happening...would this go away with some Recon LED Tail Lights or would that piece (#6 above) still come into play?
