I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and used the plastic disc for awhile. It will eventually come off and usually while you're driving. I also can't stand the suction cup mount of the windshield... too far away and blocks vision. I have had great results with putting it on the instrument panel lens right over the tach. Nothing important in the cluster is blocked, it's easy to reach and doesn't hamper your vision. I do the same on my Chrysler 300.

 

^^^ you have a garmin 350??one with the garmin pivot ball mount? if so garmin sells a dash mount that you can get works great.

 

I have a Garmin and had the same problem. Since I use it in different vechicles, tying up the cord to mount it on the left near the piller did not cut it. Purchased what is known as the bean bag, it does not movefrom where I place it on the dash and it is easy to put on the floor when parked. Additionally, states are begining to ban anything attached to the windshield.

 

i have the nuvi200w and i mounted it with the suction cup up near the rearview miror. it is up out of the way not noticable wen parked but still within an arms length. just working on wiring the cord around right now it is to short does anyone know if i can just cut the plug of and hard wire it?

 

yes you can hardwire it but don't cut off the plug. and here's why. you can solder on wire onto the tip of that thing and onto one of the sides. the tip is + and the one side is -. then you wrap it up in electrical tape and it's good to go won't come apart. then you tuck it away in the dash somewehre ground the neg and find an accessory 12 volt to hook into. this way if you ever want to take it out of that truck and just want it in a new one your car charger isn't toasted. all you do is remove the solder and wires and it's gtg. we do this all the time whereI work. well that's one way. or we take an xm direct adapter that has a female end for a car charger. plug the garmin one into that and that has leads at the end we cut adns strip and wire in. works the same either way.

 

thanks for the info if i wanted to hook into the cigarette plug where would i find the wires because right now i have it pluged into it and it goes on when the truck starts and off when i turn it off

 

the nuvi 200 should have a recharbable battery that would allow it to keep running while it isn't getting a charge. it's good for about 5 hrs. or do you mean it just won't charge when the truck is off? if it isn't able to run on battery power then there is definately a problem with the nuvi itself. otherwise you do want it to not charge while the truck is off. otherwise it will always be pulling power from the truck when it is off. o and you woulnd't have to use the wires going to the cig lighter you could use any wire in the truck labeled accessory.

 

the nuvi itself will stay on with its battery power i just dont want the constant power to it when the truck is off

 

i'm not sure which on the ram is accesory i'll tell you waht though. next day i work i'll ask a few guys and see what they know. easiest way would be to probably catch the accessory coming off the ignition.
