Truck stalls or RPMs when i come to a stop
Well, they broke down y whole engine and disconnected the pistons, added a little grease and replaced everything. Never had a problem after that. I did it once, but completely tearing down and rebuilding an engine takes tons of work.
Some one correct me if I am wrong but "greasing" the pistons is a crock of **** right??? Lol I have never heard of a "grease the pistons" service. The only engines I have rebuilt were 2 stroke motorcycle engines. And maybe thats why I had to rebuild it twice, I never greased the pistons....

it's not a general service, people don't go around asking to have it done, just to have it done like an oil change. It's something they did because of the problem at hand. The pistons were moving very poorly because of dirt build up over the years, after all it was 17 years old and the people that had it before me didn't exactly treat it well. As a matter of fact I had to replace the whole pcv valve connection and have it modified a little because they had it taped so it would fit.

They did clean them, and it's not like they took a handful of grease and just rubbed it on there. It was a small amount that ws applied after they had cleaned the pistons just to help the movement run more smooth.
it was a secondary additive that they did. They knew I added oil, but I had a small oil leak and they attributed some of the problems as to why it even had this problem to start, to the fact that there were more extensive problems in the internal structure and flow of my fluids.
so you had an old, neglected engine that was full of "crud" that needed to be rebuilt and cleaned? greasing the pistons....hmmm, maybe he stayed at a holiday inn express the night before...that's the new super turbo express horsepower upgrade that's sweeping nascar. even if i knew my engine needed a rebuild, i'd still go elsewhere if they told me they were going to "grease the pistons" while it was tore down.
on the other hand, you paid $3k for an engine rebuild and it's been great since...i wouldn't complain too much either, other than the fact that the previous owner f'ed it before you got it

There's no such thing as greasing the pistons...it makes no sense at all. Oil lubes the cylinders and pistons..any grease would just melt off and be squeegeed by the oil rings anyway. There is assembly grease but i've never put it on pistons before...maybe it's just me. Are you sure you're relaying what the mechanic said he did on the rebuild correctly?
As for the OP, my trucks idle drops under 500 rpms sometimes and then shoots up to 600. From what i've read on here it's pretty common...mine hasn't stalled out yet though.

well, thanks, you said what I was about to add on, lol. I know that it sounded strange, but it didn't hurt it at all, and regardless of whether it is normal or not, it didn't hurt the engine, and it hasn't had a problem since. So, thank you for making it clear that the point wasn't about the greasing of the piston, but the fact that the problem was fixed and had a similar nature problem that this guys truck is having. Holiday Inn express must be the way to go
haha
