Default Painted my grille

I painted the grille black...it was chrome, and also sanded to get a better bite for the paint....I have a problem with the results. It appears the paint i used doesn't work on the plastic used in the grille....its already starting to flake off after several layers. What kind is recommended if any of you have any experience with this.

I have a dark grey grille (from the work package) that I would sell cheap if you want to try again. Ironic, I replaced it with a stock chrome grill. Anyway, the grill is in my shed if you want it for cheap. Pictures of it on my truck in my "gallery".

You have to make sure that you get all the plastic chrome off, not just a lite sanding to make it course. The chrome is to smooth for anything to stick to, even coursing it with sand paper. After you eventually get it stripped, you will have to get a good primer and then some good paint. Alot of members on here have had great results with Krylon Fusion paint. That sticks to almost anything.

You can also use the new feature at the bottom of this post and see others that have painted their grills as well.

use a good primer after you sand and use rustoleum for the paint you can get it at home depot. i used it on my fender flares and they had alot of mud and rocks hit them and still no flakes.

rustoleum does work well... but i do think that dupli color does have a line of plastic paints.... i would check their site... i used rustoleum on many things but all metal... never plastic... but hey if it works it works...
