what octane????
so i am getting a superchips programmer for christmas. are any of yall running lower octane fuels when you are using the programmer? i have a jet chip on my blazer and it seems to have no ill affects if i run regular in it.
You can run 87 octane in it just fine with the "87 Octane - Economy Tune". But you won't want to. You get a couple of mods on it and you won't want to run anything else but the "91 Octane - Performance Tune".
yea well im a 19 year old college student soo i dont have the money to be running 91 octane all the time soo i was wondering if anyone was running the performance setting on 87????
No I put in 91 on the 91 performance setting. Anything lower and the knock sensors will pull back the timing resulting in less power. Or worse yet make you ping and possibly damage your motor. Superchips also has a 87 octane setting if you ever want to run that octane.
Sorry I was responding to your 1st comment and by the time I posted it there were allready 2 other posts. Anyway I havent tried the 87 setting yet but I remember reading some posts about it. So I'm sure someone will chime in that has used it or u can try the search on this site. Hope this helps.
With my 04 ram, I ran the 89 octane with or without the tune and didn't seem to have any effect, now with my 08 I run 94 and when the budget is tigth 91. Honestly 87 is top low for my taste. I run 91 on any gas engine I own and all seem to run smoother.

To answer the original question, I haven't run it with the SC but I did with the JC unknowingly and it started ticking.

You DO NOT want to run 87 octane gas while using the "Performance Setting"! The timing is advanced way too far to even consider it. Short term you will have knocking problems, long term engine damage would almost undoubtable result.
If you have any questions regarding your Superchips Flashpaq they have an excellent forum at:
