The sickness is hitten me!!!!!
I agree, it depends on how much you want to spend. If you are taking the time to do it, do it right. If you buy cheap stuff, expect to have to replace it often, which takes more time and money. I have bought JL since day one, and there are some guys out there that will say that JL is for rich kids that have more money than sense....BUT.....i have NEVER had a JL speaker fail....ever... And i have put them through some pretty tuff trials. Concept and Directed both make good quality amps for very reasonable prices.
I got the Fox Box off of ebay for $150 after shipping and it sounds great.

You can put has much money into this as you want. If you are wanting to stay on the cheap side, look on ebay. I got all my stuff, two 500 watt 10" speakers, and a 650 watt amp for around $100, now it is not your big name brands, but you can hear me a block away. I made my on box for under $25. It is not no show stopper, but it does sound good! Under $130, you can't help but like it.
Iam with mfs212 JL is a good sub but damn expensive. You can get a great sound out of diamond audio subs as well theese are kind of expensive but well know. I am running two diamond M6 10's with two concept HP-1500 amps. The bass is a little extreme but listening to " A country boy can survive" makes it worth it!!!if you are wanting car audio let me know a friend of mine works at a car audio outlet store here in St.louis i am sure they would be willing to sell to you. Also my neighbor is the generl manager of a locally owned car audio store im sure he would do some price cutting for ya as well here is the link to my neighbors website http://www.grandautosound.com/.
this is one of the best places to get audio CarDiscountStereos.Comif you want it to hit hard you want 12's or 15's when you pick out a subwoofer you want to look a the rms over the max powerthe lower the ohms andthe higher the rms the harder it should hit.
