The sickness is hitten me!!!!!
if you are not going four bass get one 10' sub and upgrade your componet speakers that will give you good tone and you will be able to adjust the bass i put a system in my dad'struck one 10' sub 500w amp and kicker speakers to replace the stock helikessouthern country and the older rocki know someonewho owns an audio store thats what he told me what to get for him.you can get a sub box that fits under your back seat then do aupgrad on yourdoor speakers that should be just what you want
I agree with both of the last2 posts. Like BlueRam said, sound is all about personal preference. I was just suggesting not to buy brands like Boss, Pyle, Pyramid, SPL... All of these have a track record for underperformance and failure.
Travis, I definitely suggest upgrading the stock speakers. But I would only do that if he is running an amp to them. I had my JL components running off the head unit, and you lose a lot of mid-bass that way. Most aftermarketspeakers are designed for at VERYleast 50wRMS, and most headunits only put out about 20/ch.
Basically TD, you have unlimited options available to you from just adding a single 10" and an amp under the seat to completely redoing your system.... decisions, decisions...

if he goes for one 10" maybe he can get a 400RMS or 500RMS for 100 dolaras and and amp (400 to 600Rms) for 200 something dollars!
I agree with u msf212, dont buy cheap stuff because later u will have to pay more when they fail. I bought some cheap sonys for my doors and I dont like it how it sound... now i have to spend more money [:@]

well first let's address teh fact that you will need a new headunit. If you want a system to even be worth your time in fabricating and buying all you need the headunit is the most important part of the system. everything else relies on a headunit that can tune and provide the cleanest signal possible. for a system running any amount of amplifiers youw ill need a headunit with a parametric equalizer, 3 band preferably or more. as well as one with front rear and sub preouts that are high voltage. 4volt and up. That headunit iin it's own will cost about 300 dollars. for a good one. alpine, eclipse, and pioneer I woudl recommend. Kenwood was good but I've been having lots of issues of late with them failing at early age. but that may just be a fluke kenwood always made a good head unit. It will be a waste of ur time to do Line out converters using a factory head unit. It isn't ahrd at all to do with the stock deck but I can tell you that it will not be worth your time. aftermarket decks are a needed component if you want a good system. Everything in ur system depends on that signal to sound good. everything from ur subs to ur new mids and highs speakers.
then to address ur subs. Once again you need to use high quality. any of the brands I've read in this thread are great. MTX,Kicker, Rockford fosgate, JL and JBL are my general favorits. For pure SPL and you just wanna rock the world sound look at Memphis audio, resonant enginnering, and FI. I agree with all that the guy "Story" has said. he knows his stuff. building the proper box has the biggest effect on how a system sounds. you could have top dollar subs and amps and then a ****ty box and ur system will soudn like ****. I dunno about the using all 8" subs thing because I would think he'd lack a bit in the low end with only using 8's. but i've never heard a system using all 8's so I dunno. I prefer 10"s or 12"s. once again sub size aint a huge deal if everything is set up right.
I will say this once and only once DO NOT GET THOSE BOXES THAT ARE PREFORMED PLASTIC AND GO UNDER THE SEAT they are too damn small for the subs you woudl want and honestly arn't big enuff for any sub IMO. if you want good sound just like story said. thrash the back seat and use a nice ported box.
as far as amps once again any of the brands listed I like and have worked with before. all very nice. coordinate the sub choice with the proper amp from whatever brand you would like. if ur sub is 400 watts rms then buy a 400 watt rms amp.
also i will bold this for everyone DO NOT BE FOOLED BY PEAK POWER RATINGS. THEY MEAN ABSOLUTELY JACK ****. ONLY PAY ATTENTION TO THE RMS OUTPUT OF AN AMPLIFIER.
also since ur gonna be going big youw ill need a 4 channel amp to run ur mids and highs. same thing for the speakers all the brands are good. I really like polk speakers. don't bother with their db series they are bottom end not so great. try there MOMO championship series stuff with the carbon fiber cones. they are so sexy.

yea...those momo's are pretty nice, and are punchy too....
YES!!!! NEVER LOOK AT PEAK RATINGS....they are just a marketing ploy like dodge saying that the Hemi has 340hp stock......RMSis the only real data....
But getting back to what TD originally said, he only wants a little additional substance to his low end. So, he could go with a single sub and be content. It will be far from the best sounding system, but it will allow him to remove a little of the bass from the door speakers and provide them a little longer service duration....
Ben, in regards to your suggestion on the box... First, I do agree that a properly made/sized box makes a world of difference. However, the reason most of us bought Quad Cabs is sothat we may transport more than 2 people. (that is why i traded my red '03 v6 xcab dakota infor my '04 Red QC Hemi)I have that prefab composite Fox Box. It is well designed, well constructed, and has almost 2cuft of volume in a ported box. I guess if we were looking for huge SPL's for competition, losing the backseat and getting a HUGE box (properly sized for the subs) would be a GREAT way to blow out your windows(and the competition).....lol... I have an awesome sounding system, and have lost no seating area.

mfs post up some pics of this box. because we are talking of two diff things. the one I saw a few ppl got was this plastic molded deal that was a sealed job with mebbe .75 cu ft. that's before you would take away for displacement of a sub. 2 cu ft is that net after port volume is taken away is that 2 cu ft for two subs or 2 cu ft per chamber. if it's ported I assume it's a single chamber with a port and just having the two subs share the same airspace?
i havn't seen the one you speak of but the one I did see was not worth a shiznit. the box was a funky design that was definately not meant to reproduce soudn well at all. it may have had volume in cuft but you cant just make a box ***** nilly in some sort of crazy shape and expect it to have good harmonics. I go so far to promote airflow in a box that I use resin to make every angle a 45 degree angle inside the box as well as making all surfaces rounded and smooth as a newborns azzz
