cb question???
I have a question and you guys seem like the perfect group to ask... I just received a cobra C.B. for Christmas and I purchased a 102' whip with spring and ball mount and I’m not sure if I have installed the coaxial cable correctly I was told to strip the cable and place a screw on connector and screw it in to the end???? (whitch end and what do i do with the braided end.)
Dose this sound right?
On the ball mount I have a hole only big enoughf for the stem comming off the mount dosent this "ground out the antenna" preventing it from working right the guy who sold this to me said i did not want to put the weight of the mount only on the mounting bracket so drill the hole smaller not 1 inch
dose this sound right?
I ran the cable under the front set and down the floor board between the plastic and carpet behind the rear seat and out the vent of the cab under the bed and down the frame on the inside near the brake lines.... dose this sound like a problem to any one???
Thanks.

RE: cb question???
yes that sounds correct. strip either end with a wire stripper. there is an outer coating then a copper web, then another insulator then a solid copper wire. strip the outer coating and then take the copper webbing and fod it back onto the cable, then strip the inner insulator a little higher. put the single copper lead in the middle thru the hole in the screw on connector and screw it down onth the copper that was folded back. this is a widely used connector, so it will be fine.

try this for coax assembly, and ur right u don't want the center of the ball mount to touch anything or it will ground out the ant which will blow the finals in the radio when u key up. now get that radio out to the local cb shop for a peak and tune or better yet trade up to a connex 3300.

RE: cb question???
here's my 102 whip on my 95.did away with the ball mount as it left wires in coax exposed to the weather. screwed spring to a mirror mount, put end on coax, put in dieelectric grease to seal and screw on.
