RE: Wiring a sub to stock deck
I don't want to step on any toes here but there will be a night and day difference. Sure it's the same thing but the converter inside that amp will not be able to handle the power from a factory deck. Sure it will work but I promess you it will sound ten times better using an external converter. The external converter will have a greater range of adjusting. If you were to use the amp converter you would have to turn the gains all the way down. I'm sure the subs would still be way too loud. You would be able to adjust the gains to the proper settings by using the external one.
Seeing that this is a temp system, just use some small spade connecters and plug the speaker feeds right in the amp and don't even worry about getting a phoenix connecter or step down. Just remebber that your factory speakers DO NOT have a crossover on them. You will not hear them getting destroyed from too much bass. Find out where the max volume is before subs go in and never go past that point.

I dunno you may be right i've only used line outs twice and the ones I've used didn't have any gain adj like the one in the link. and in the end the system sounded like *** anyway lol. (the guy hadwalmart brand stuff it was funny) it was just a box with a four pin plug and wires and then rca jacks. it was really sad actually. the place where I work we really just push for people to buy the aftermarket deck. it's better in the long run when u have a parametric eq and a HPF so you don't kill the factory speakers.
I don't see why the gain would have to be turned all the way donw on the amp using it's built in converter. only way I see that is if the converter in the amp wouldn't be able to bring it down far enough. which would seem a bit hard to do seeing as factory deck has maybe 9 watts rms into each channel but who knows like I said only used em twice. I might just try it sometime with my JL amp I mean i'd hope to god JL could make a better line out converter than scoshe. if not I dunno what I woudl do lol.
on another note I totally agree with you on the subs. you are right to the one bajillionth level that it's all in the box. so many ppl fail to understand that. I wanna hear ur system sometime i've never heard anything with 8's so I am very intrigued. it sounds impressive. I've always had tens and twelves and they did damn good on rock. I always wanted to try usign eights as a good bass to midbass blend in driver. sorta for that range between 75-120 hz where ur subs are lowpassed and mids/highs are high passed. mebbe it'd work mebbe not I dunno. I'd think that woudl give the best of it all. use some big 12's and the 8's. then u'd have killer bass for rap and sick punch for rock

Best to hold off until you have enough money for something decent. If you do all the tapping to the speaker wires and if what these guys say its true, that it will sound like crap, you'll be unhappy with a ghetto setup. The last thing you want is to drive down the street and people say, "there comes that nice truck with the ghetto sound system"

I just paid the extra $50 +/- that it took for taking it down to a place to have them intall it. I also used one of those RCA step down converters though. I had them put in new door speakers, my subs and amp, all connected throught the stock cd player. It sounds really nice. I just didn't want to go through the pain of tearing through the sttock cd player to hook everything up, specialy because I've seen on a few diferent trucks where people have shorted out their A/C and Heater controls because of a wire placed in the wrong place or the person attempted to tap into the wrong wire and just screwed everything up.
