Won't rev above 4000rpm!!!
Hi all, can someone please help???
Driving home last night and went to overtake the car in front, punched the throttle and started to overtake and as the revs got to 4000 it coughed and spluttered and i only just made the pass. Carried on along the road and all seemed fine until i tried again to go over 4000rpm and it just cuts back. I know it limits the revs when you are in N or P and you throttle it but not had this problem before. When i got home i stopped the truck and left it for five mins then restarted it and all seems fine. Drove to work this morning and done about fifty miles today and all seems ok.
Thanks for your help, is it just a gremmlin or should i be on the look out for something serious going wrong?
Oh yea, it a 2005 1500 5.7 hemi QC with about 43,000kms on the clock, no mods as of yet!!!

I know some transmissions have a sensor that basically tells the computer if you are in P or N so that the rev limiter is enforced. That sensor may be having problems. [/align]
I too have a 2005 5.7 QC, and have seen the same "gremlins" in my truck. After about 35000 i had the throttle not work, it was stuck at 2500 RPM no matter what you did to the accelerator. (fix, Sut off for 5 minutes restart. Never saw the problem again) Second the truck would not rev above 3000 RPM. (fix same as before, simple shutdown and restart fixed it.) Last was about 200 miles ago (currently passing 39000) Started the truck and the accelerator didn't work. Everything seemed normal. RPM were idle and everything worked except the gas... Floor it and nothing happened. (fix, again shutdow, restart. Problem disapears) I thing the 2005 Hemi has a gremlinin the throttle control. The factory wants you to believe it is just an electronic throttle working on a syncro servo combination... it is all lies... when you put your foot down a gremlin measures the distance and moves the throttle lever how ever much he wants to. Serously, I think it is a problem with the electronic throttle our trucks have. If it happens again i'm taking it in for them to replace the throttle system. i've brought it in for each one and had it doccumented. If you come in more then 3 times they have to do a repair. Atleast so they say. The service department said if I come back they would replace it. no problems yet...but it has only been 200 miles since the last "gremlin attack"...
Thanks for the info on the gremlin, will see if i can smoke the little critter out in the morning. TD not had any other problems with the truck until now. I know this may be tempting fate, but i been more than happy with it for nearly two years (35,000kms) now.
Think i going to have to wait and see if it happens again before i can do anything about it.
Thanks guys

my gremlin turned out to be a squirrel. all the wires to the throttle body got chewed thru when i was at work. never left idle. i had to take a 100ft run to get on the trailer to get home. i had to solder all back together and no problem since.
what speed did u hit? my 95 stops at 4 grand at 105 mph, haven't rung out the 06 yet.

Does anyone have the problem where your crusing at 1500 to 2000 rpm you want to go a little faster but the more gas you give the rpm's stay the same until your floored then it jumps up to 3000rpm then it doesn't sent back down the r's keep climbing.
My ram did the wont go over 3800rpm deal to me. Ran fine at low rpms, wouldn't move over 3800 at any speed.
It was bad gas/water in gas/combo of both. Do a search, there are a few threads on it. Where have you been getting fuel?
