I always found hotrodding a truck silly myself. I just got my Ram and I was very surprisedathow many "street trucks" there are.Other truck forums I have been a member of actually laughed at people that hot rodded their trucks and I can't say I blame them. Trucks are utility vehicles designed for work. Picking them for a hot rod seems like a pretty bad idea. However, it is their money and their time so it really isn't any of my business. I try to just chuckle and move on.

Just curious - what's hot rodding, in your opinion?

I plan on putting a cai and programmer on, but it's mainly for gas mileage because I drive 40k miles a year. I might put on exhaust later, but that would be it.

Is that hotrodding? I would imagine that 90% of the Dodge truck drivers have those few mods or less...

imnot sure about u guys but i have raced against 4 cylinders 6 cylinders and camaros mustanges and other trucks, and even with turbs the 4 cylinders r to slow to even eat my dust, the 6 cylinders are just as bad, and i beat stock 5.0s all the time, the only thing to ever beat me was a camaro ss. and he wants to say u cant hot rod a truck.
Depending on the years of f-bodies and mustangs that you're talking about i'm gonna call BS big time. My 2000 Z28 maro rana 12.7@ 110 in the 1/4with mild bolt-on's...bone stock I had her 13.3 @ 106. The slower new edge stang GT's are low 14's @ high 90's trap's bone stock...the only truck i've seen run thatanywhere near stock is the 2wd reg cab 5.7 Tundra. As far as the 4 bangers, a SRT-4 will walk you like a dog evenbone stock...you don't even want to start talking about mods on anything factory boosted.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with hot rodding a truck...just make sure you know where you stand on the food chain. It does get annoying to quick cars when these stockish big trucks rev at them and try to race them...just like countless Rams have done to me in my Z28.

the mustang gts dont tuch my truck, in the early 2000 models, and im not talkin about srt4s that come turboed, cause they are also tuned, but those little rice burners that do it them selfs, i leave them in the dust all the time, either im blind or there r alot of people in my town that cant drive cause i have beatin, a neon, a turbo neon, a civc, 3 mustang gts, and a camaro, and then final lost to a camaro ss.

I would like to "weigh" in on this thread.
320 pounds (!) and 6 foot 6 inches tall.
So..... the cramped, tiny interiors of the so called "performance"
cars are a special kind of hell for someone like me. I would love to have a vette, viper, camaro, mustang, wrx, s2000,srt4-6-8 etc. but I literally CANNOT drive them. I've heard all the punka$$
comments like: get a convertible, move the seat, take the seat out blah blah blah. F*&k that....
The Ram 1500 is the only way I can play this game.
My ram ran 15.50 stock. The last time I was at the strip I ran 14.40ish with a best of 14.339@92 mph. Pics of timeslips
available. So does that answer the question of why someone would hotrod a ram? Other peoples lives are different from yours,
and so they make choices you don't understand or agree with.
just my .02$

I try not to bench race but likeI said, 99-04 2V GT's run low 14's with high 90's traps bone stock...your flowmaster and filter won't cut it. The newer 05+ 3V GT stangs are in themid to high 13's stock. Depending on the configuration of your truck I don't doubtit could walk a stock 96-98 GT...those are dogs in stock form.

What year camaro did you beat and was he actually racing? I had aQC Hemi ram that though he smoked me in my Z28...problem was he was racing himself because I don'trun'em in the rain.Just FYI buta SS camaro is mainly an appearance package with small upgrades in handling (hood, spoiler, wheels, sway bars, standard 3.23 gearing for autos...option for Z28's)...so the SS and Z28have the same drivetrain.Oh and6 banger maro'sdon't count as kills....

I dont think anyone has mentioned the feeling of a burn out with so much smoke boiling out from under the fender wells you cant see. OH YEA! And the smell of burning rubber. I get goose bumps thinking about it. I may go do a burn out right now!!

Some would say"thats such a waste of money" My response is you cant take it with you. Discount tire never runs out of tiresand I dont care how much fuel cost.

I dont mean to come off as flippant but people have fun in different ways.

Merryburnouts to all and a happy new year.

Jeff
