RE: Dodge Ram...most overpriced?
I agree 100%. Anytime you see an add in the paper where the product is discounted by upwards of $12,000 or 35% and you KNOW the dealer is not losing money, the MSRP must be ridiculously out of line!
You walk into a Ford or GM dealership and you might get a 15-20% discount tops and at a Nissan or Toyota dealer, well good luck!!!

Ya, now is a great time to get a Ram.
I just bought my 08 Hemi 1500 Quad Cab loaded for 21k and they threw in nerf bars as well.
In 2001 I bought a regular cab Ram 1500 with no options, not even power windows, for around 17,500!
I think for the extra 4500 bucks this time around, I got a bargain!!!!!

RE: Dodge Ram...most overpriced?
Well,
Having sold for Dodge, Mitsu, Mazda, Hyundai, Nissan, Kia, Porsche, and Subaru....I think that is all of them....oh yea, and a short stint at a VW dealer, I can tell you that Dodge is trying REALLY hard to increase it's market saturation. Chevy/GMC sold almost 2x as many trucks as Dodge last year. The dealers DO NOT make a lot of money on the front end of the vehicles with those types of incentives. There is not nearly the markup on vehicles compared to what you see in the retail world. The internet is responsible for a lot of this, as consumers are much better informed. There are even sites that will give you the average dealer invoice price (large volume dealers get discounts on their units).
When there is not a lot profit on the front end, the dealer will usually up the interest rate (sometimes by as many as 3-4%) which comes back to the dealer as profit. They also make a significant amount on the extended warranties, GAP insurance, maintenance agreements, and othermisc. services they sell.
Basically, if you think you are getting screwed, walk away. We are only trying to sell you a car at a price that is satisfactory to YOU. Additionally, you can always ask the sales manager to see a copy of the invoice. A lot of times, they will be happy to show you. The sales managers get paid by volume, so they will do just about anything to move a vehicle.
Just my $.02

RE: Dodge Ram...most overpriced?
Thats kind of surprising to me. When i started truck shopping my first stop was ford because I've driven F-150's most of my life but I couldnt get one for less then 17,000 with low low miles. I found some decent deals on rams with v-6. I eventually found my 07 with 7000 miles and the 4.7 for 14,000. It's a regular cab but I still think it's relatively cheap compared to the other trucks in the class. ( the truck was actually marked at about 17k but they gave me 5000 for my old truck that wasnt worth 2000 anywhere else I looked....grand total was just shy of $13,000 w/ tax tag etc etc)

NEVER buy ANY vehicle from a dealership. I don't think they are eveil people or out to get me, but why the hell should I pay someone elses salary in profit when I buy a car? I know we all have to make a living but I just don't see what a dealership does for me to automaticaly increase the value of a truck simply because I found it on their lot and not in the paper/internet? just my .02
correction:
I guess if you wanted a NEW vehicle then you really have no other options.

RE: Dodge Ram...most overpriced?
Geaze if the ram is over priced, I d hate to see the likes of of Ford and Gms over inflated price, I bought my 06 2500 ram on a factery order because it was a lot cheaper than a Ford or GM.
The latest gimack here in Canada is Candian pricing top reflect the strenght of the Cannadian buck ( now I think its par ) 10,000 grand of MSRP on a new quad cab ctd, truck is still 46,000 cdn, even Ford and gm are pushing this.
The last CTD i looked at was a base SLT long box 08 ram 2500 with 4x4 and the CTD, MSRp was 52 grand...
I hate to dodge reinventing new stickers/packages to add to the line up of Ram trucks, this is page right out of Fords book.
Fart when they bend you over ...
