The change is in the heads and lighter piston/rod assembly. They squeezed more power by higher compression ratio and 2 plugs per cylinder.

I was hoping for that when they swapped mine out, but apparently they keep older model blocks somewhere for this kind of thing. I wonder what it would cost to do a swap to a new 4.7?

with any luck they will drop in the newer 4.7 rated at 302 hrspwr instead of the original factory one

Thanks for the link. Corrected a misconception I had about SOHC and DOHC. It's apparent there'd be some fairly signifcant electrical/computer changes involved as well so it'd be more than just swapping the top half of the engine. And it'd probably be the electronics that cost the most.
