79,975 Miles My 4.7 Is Toast
My 4.7 started knocking yesterday morning getting louder and louder as I drove it (had to get to work). I brought it into the dealer and they confirmed it needed a new motor. I bought it in November with 78,100 on it. Needless to say, I was quite angry. The technician said it was an internal failure that no one could have detected until it happened. It was just bad luck buying a used vehicle. The Service writer then said he would check dealer connect to see if by chance it was a certified used with the 8/80 powertrain. He doubted it becasue the program didn't take off for dodge until a couple of years ago. He looked at the screen and asked me for $50. I asked why and he said it had an added care Plus service contract that I could transfer for $50. Long story short, Chrysler is paying all but $50 of my new engine as well as anything else the technician finds that would be covered on a top to bottom inspection I asked for. The downside is being without my ram for 2 weeks but for what I am getting it's well worth the wait
Great news on the warranty. Even though I have a Hemi in my truck, I would be interested to know what the "internal failure" was. I have a vested interest as I have purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee a few months back with a 4.7 and 61k miles at the time, it's getting ever so close to 70k and I paid the nominal fee for the transfer of the original 7/70 but after that I'm SOL. I'm just curious to know what specifically failed. The 4.7 has a solid reputation for long term reliability and I know some Grand Cherokee owners with well over 200k miles on their 4.7s...
Good news on the warranty. I'm still debating whether or not to cancel mine, I have about 45 days left to decide. It cost me $2700...its a 4 year, 100,000 mile (total, it already has 41,000) its a 2004 4x4 QC with a 4.7, manual trans. Also, I'm not sure how the mods affect the warrenty. All I have is a muffler, and plan on doing an intake. of course, the salesman said it would not affect the warranty, but after reading the fine print, it seems that the mods COULD potentially void it...

I had 2 valves collapse and a rocker arm thrown in my '03 4.7 at 69,000 miles. It was still under powertrain warranty thankfully. They replaced the block and internals, but everything else they re-used.
