Manual or Auto Hemi 2500
New member here ! I currently own a 95 1500 4x2 ive had it for 4 years and its time for a change ! I live in Scotland so my choice in rams is limited, but ive came across a mint cond 2500 QC 4x4 2005 in black with only 12 K on the clock for £20000 .But its a 5 speed manual box. I love the lazy driving style of my old truck with the auto. Does any one know how the 2500 drives with the manual ? I guess it should be better on fuel . Any info Welcome. cheers.
I really like mine with a stick, and as long as I'm driving a truck, I'll never go back. I do find something a little strange though, mine has a 6speed G-56 (mercedes-bentz) commercial rated tranny in it factory OEM. It took a little time getting used to at first, mainly because the ratios in it they're a little closer together. I'm at 69k now with no problems from it
I relly like the six sp manual, I do a lot of high way driving, But in the city, like 5 mph rush hour trafic, its a pain, the 6sp combo with the hemi is torque lovers dream, but your not going to win drag races.
The auto vers manual debate will go on forever, But I find the 6sp better suiets my driving style and mileage is better highway.
the six speed are newer they are model years 05 and up i believe.
in the 1500's you can only get a six speed or any stick shift (if older model year) with the 4.7L. hemi is standard with the 545rfe 5 spd auto.
in 2500's you have pick of the litter. any tranny with any engine hemi or CTD. you can get w/e u want.
o and check the gear ratios. just because it is a six speed doesn't mean it has a higher highway gear in sixth. for example jeep wranglers. in 2005 they went from 5spd to 6spd. although the six speed has one more gear it still has a lower gear ratio in sixth than the five speed does in fifth. in lamens terms you get higher rpms at highway speed with the six spd rather than the 5

Beadhand,
The 6spd was the only manual option for my 05-5.7L
Don't know what to tell ya about the 5spd for a 2005 3/4 ton, unless---------maybe you're mistaken about the engine size, or its possibly a Euopean thing. Get on the Chrysler site and see if you can ask them a question, or possibly get the VIN number to one of the Chrysler guys here and he can find out what the truck came from the factory with.
