Warmup?
How long do you guys warm up your trucks for before driving? I have heard different things about warming up, some say no need, some say its absolutly necessary. I usually warm it up for 2-5 minutes before driving, longer on really cold days...if I have time. What say you all?
i start it up before i load the kids or whatever in, by the time that is done it has idled down and i feel that it is ready to go, but mine burns gasoline. don't know jack about diesel.
Just long enough for it to drop down to 800 rpm, which is usually 30 seconds to a minute. Anything beyond that and you're just wasting fuel, in my opinion anyway. I just don't push it until it really starts to warm up.
Yeah I always let a vehicle warm up. I usually let it warm up until the rpm gauge has stopped moving. If it's still ideling higher than usual it means it is still warming up. There is nothing more annoying to me than someone just starting their whip up and then throwing it into drive. I have like a very set ritual when I start my truck lol. I love starting it up. I usually let it sit for about 5-10 minutes depending on if I'm in a hurry. But usually I always aim to let it get down to it's usual idle point. I also put it in neutral when I start it so the transmission fluids can start circulating through aand warming up. You can see I take pride in starting the beast up in the morning
i have heard many different opinions on this subject too but many of the "professional" car mechanics say to let the car/truck warm up only until normal idle rpm is achieved. Personally I don't drive the truck very hard, i just wait until i have enough room to moderately accelerate to the speed limit +5. By the time i hit the highway the engine is warmed up and i can be a bit quicker on the acclerator.

I do have a remote start and the only time a use it is rigth at the moment I leave the door (approx. 1mins max)
So you would find me annoying, what I find annoying is the ones warming up their car so they can get in when its blowing hot air so that their f#$kin asses won't be freezing (vice versa in summer with AC)
Guy, you make it sound like warming your vehicle up is for ferry winkles. I never said I let it warm up so I can get the ****ing "heater" going. A vehicle is a piece of equipment, have you ever used a real piece of heavy machiney before? If you did, you'd know your supposed to let anything you use warm up first. That's not like some higher archy concept. It's called taking care of your vehicle, and making sure all the oils have circulated through the systems before you go throwing it into drive. I resent you taking what I said out of context and transforming it into some gay ferry boy ****. Being knowledgable and letting your vehicle warm up until the rpms have subsided into a consistent idle is not something crazy. I just find it hilarious how anyone could possibly misconstrue what I said, and change it into something gay and irresponsible...Perhaps re-read it again, it's competely logical and appropritate for a vehicle to warm up in its first start of the day..
Get a block heater for the cold weather. I've got one in my '06 Power Wagon; I keep it plugged in during the cold months. All I need to do is start her up, give it 20-30 seconds for the oil to circulate well, then off I go.
