Default code p0441

soo i go to start my truck up and the check engine light is on.......ofcourse. soo i go home and read the code then get on all data and see that it is about the evaporation emission control canister. i read on there that it could just be a pinched return or sending line or a bad pump or a number of other things. anyone ever had this code pop up and if soo what was the problem it ended up being???

Common problem, at least with the 03's. Check the small cheap things first. I got the code and it went away then came back few days later, I spent $10 on a gas cap and it solved it for now. Good luck.

Matt,

Another area to check is the rubber hose connections to the evaporative system. The canister and connection lines are located behind the driver up in the frame rails, also the solenoid valve is located next to and below the battery--at least on mine it is. Small leaks in these rubber lines can cause the same troubles. Quite often you'll get a "small evap leak" code, and if they are bad enough, a "large evap leak" code. Given the age of your truck, and the fact that the rubber lines are just plain rubber lines, nothing special, I wouldn't be surprised. I plan on doing mine this summer with silicone lines as mine is nearing the 70K mark.
