Default little tire feed back

i am looking into off road tires, like all terrain. how do you like pro comp tires, and what else do you like, what's the best bang for the buck, like traction vs. wear. i am looking at the pro comp x-terrains 35/12.5/17 i can get then for cheap, and a buddy of mine has them and likes them. i do some off roading, but most all of my driving is on road, between 50 and 65 mph. i need something that has a good tread for dirt and mud, but that will last longer than 30000 miles. any suggestions are appreciated.

also i have heard of blems, what's your take on these?

thanks,
Mike

I have had 2 sets of Procomps, been a few years ago. I will never buy another set, they were by far the worst tires i ever owned. Wore quick, uneven, hard to balance, etc.

I hear from this forum that has changed..but that is my two cents.

imo, look at BFG, NITTO, TOYO,

Although I've never owned a set, I've known many guys who have. Probably a good half dozen of my hunting club buddies in south GA. have had them and not one of them would get them again. I think the company spends 90% of it's money in advertising and next to none on the product, because everyone that I personally know with them complains they wear in nothing flat. Now, I can understand a good mudder wearing on the highway prematurely, but a lot of these guys had A/T's wear in no time.
Just talked to a guy with a nice '02 CTD 4x4 with a mild lift who was unloading his golf clubs out of the bed the other day at the golf course. I commented on how I liked his truck, but it looked like he'd be in the market for tires soon as they were quite bald X-Terrains. He said "Don't ever buy a set of those, those fu**ers only got 18,000 miles on them."

Buddy of mine just blew one of his out at highway speeds with hardly any miles on them, Scary. He pull off the rest to look at,and they are all crack everywhere at where the lugs come around from the top to the side. Procomp doesn't give a f@k and won't even respond to him..... Google search "Pro Comp blowouts"Not the kindof blowout "pricing" you'd be hoping for, but blowin' out tires left, right and center.

Just bought Mickey Thompson ATZ's, love the look and so far the traction is great (snowy gravel roads everyday). Can't talk about wear cause i've only got about 300 miles on em...

Price was good too i thought, was also looking at the new BFG MT KM2, but costly.

Had mine...loved em...ran great! The tail end of my 3rd gen would break loose under the lightest throttle w/ the stock Michelin on it. After the Pro Comps went on I never worried about it again. Very little road noise at freeway speeds. Easy on the snow...great on dirt.

Only reason they are not on now is Hubby wanted different rims.

I think you made an excellent choice there, Broich. The last set of tires I had before switching over to Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek brands about eight years ago was BFG M/T's and I had all kinds of problems with them. Big cupping issues and uneven, premature wear. The tire dealer was always blaming my truck, but when I replaced the tires after only 16k miles and put on a set of Mickey Thompsons, they were fine on same truck with no driveline modifications for the 30k miles I had them till I traded in the truck on my current one, so it had to be the tires. From the tiny amount of wear on them, whoever bought that truck from the dealer got at least another 30k out of them as well. Put Mickey 33" MTX's on my current truck when it was like a week old intil I lifted it at 29k miles and purchased my current Dick Cepek 35's. With 29k on them I re-sold them for over half of what I paid for them new, as there was almost no visible signs of wear.
So, if you get anything out of those ATZ's like I've gotten out of three sets of the Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek's I've had, you will be real pleased...

I think your best bang for the buck are going to be Maxxis - I have a set of Maxxis Bighorns - 305x70x17 mount and balance for right at 800 - that's a 34" mud terrrain tire for less than a grand.

Have almost 7K on them and theyare looking great no visible wear - they ride well on the road with a mild hum at hwy speeds - I have had them on gravel/dirt roads/mud and they have performed great - Highly recommend!

I have about 40,000 km's on my HANKOOK Dynapro MT RT03's. They worked great in snow, mud, and gravel roads. they have very little highway noise as well. I paid 220. + tax for each here in Canada. I bet they will get at least another 25-30,000 KM's before they need to be changed
