Default Gas Vs. Diesel ?

I know the Diesel is a lot stronger engine. But I would like some advice. I curently have and 06 qc 4x2 hemi. After looking at the 09's that are going to come out, I think I want an 07 or 08 Mega Cab. Reason being, is they still have the great amount of room and still a 6' bed. I personally don't do a lot of hualing. I do hall a bass boat to the lake when I go, but the Hemi pulls it just fine. I can't really think of anything I would be hauling that would be heavier, enless I buy a travel trailer, but don't count on that. Since they are doing away with the mega, I think i should buy one. My plan is to try and get exactly what i want, so this truck will last for 8+ years. I regret not buying the mega the first time, and i feal I really want a 4x4. so should I go with the half ton mega 4x4 slt or should i find a 2500 mega 4x4 with a diesel? Is the diesel that much more dependable? I know it gets better mileage but for the price difference, i think it would take all 8 to 10 years to make up the difference. I have not had any problems with my truck now, except for the staining seats, hence why i want an 07 or 08. What do you suggest? money is always a factor, but I think I could swing a used 3/4 ton 4x4 mega.

Well, this is a tough one. If you can swing the cummins I always would recommend a diesel, with the mega and a hemi your gas mileage is going to suck. But like you said, it will take a few years to make up the price difference.

Dependability, the diesel is definitely more dependable. Ecspecially if you are going to do any towing. If there is a chance of you getting a travel trailer down the road, the diesel is the better choice. Trust me, if I could afford a newer cummins or powerstrokeI would have one.

I sit on 35's and am stop and go traffic. this morning I was on the road one hour and about 15 minutes of that on the freeway I idled and used my brakes. I can pull anything, I still run mid 15 1/4 miles and I can and do run vegetable oil for fuel. If you can afford the Cummins, Do it. Just make sure you get a 5.9 so you don't have all the smog crap on it.

I have a 07 Mega cab 2500 with the hemi and have no complaints what so ever. I got mine with the optional 4:10 gears. I also have installed a 6" superlift and 37x13.50R20 Nitto mud grapplers. My truck does not have any problem pulling them at all. The diesel is so overated. If your not pulling a house or something equivalant, the hemi will do fine . I get around 11mpg and brand new i got 13mpg. I know guys that have the CTD that get around 14mpg. Besides, you cant beat the lifetime powertrain warranty that the hemi has. The diesel does not have that. People dont buy truck like this for gas mileage. If ya want mileage, get a honda civic or toyota.

you need to read the fine print with dodge's warrantys, according to the "LIMITED" lifetime warranty section B

What's Covered
The lifetime powertrain limited warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a powertrain component listed in section E below that is defective in workmanship and materials. There is no coverage for towing in the event of disablement. does not cover normal wear and tear, any dealer will find a way to say a highr mileage failure is your fault and make you pay for it. Been there done that.

Hey man hemi is nice..but diesels last sooo much longer. They're stronger..and get better gas mileage than a gas engine. Id say go with the mega cab. No doubt.

i have a hemi, they are reliable, but for the time your talking of keeping it, the ctd is the way to go m8. In that situation i would. IF i could have afforded it mine would have the 6.7L, no doubt about it.

You are so true about some dealers. You have to know your stuff when talking to them. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, you should not have a problem. The key word in the warranty is materials. I want to see them tell me its normal wear and tear if my engine starts burning oil or it spun a bearing because it has 150,xxx miles on it. They will have to prove what normal wear and tear is.
