HI, I have a 2005 Ram SLT 1500 4.7L four door that is two wheel drive with 20,556 miles on it.
I get a hard knock (Like hammer hitting hard Metal) out of my right front suspension when I go over bumps but not all the time. It will most likely do it when I go over a uneven road like when they are doing a repaving job and you get that 2" drop. Or going in and out of the driveway. It will do it some times on normal road bumps.
The dealer has replaced sway bar links and the right front shock but it is still there.
It sounds like aHammer hitting hard metal.
Has any one hard of this?" I would like to get it fixed once and for all!!!

I have the same problem, sounds like heavy bottoming out, as far as I know my suspension is all original. No idea!??!

 

I had the same problem. Mine didn't do it all the time at first, but then ig got worse and worse, it was kind a loud clunk, or hammer hitting something. Does it happen more on tunrs and bumps at the same time?

Mine did almost exactly what you are describing and it was a bad tie rod end. one was bad, but you couldnt really tell unless the suspension was unloaded. the other you could just reach down and shake the rod and tell it was it.

Anywhoo, warranty covered the 373 bucks to fix it, and no problems since

 

JD1500, That is exactly what my truck is doing. It makes sense that the Tie rod could be bad because it dose do it more on turns and bumps at the same time and specially when the suspension is unloaded. I will let the dealer know this.

Ok I looked at my outer tie rods todayand they are both very bad. So I will be dropping my truck off to get them replace under warranty on Wednesday. I amjust very surprised that with under 21,000 miles that they are bad

 

Well, t when i took it in, the service guy who i know pretty well, told me they had seen quite a few of em on the 1500's....

Not enough for a recall or tsb, but he said it seemed to be a problem that was known to happen

 

The funny thing is that my Dodge dealer told me that they never seen them go bad with such low miles. I say that is bull because I spoke to Dana Splicer today on the phone and the Gentleman on the phone told me it was aknown problem. JD1500 Just what you told me.

 

OK I got my truck back. They did replace both outer tie rods. They told me the Noise was still there. So the replaced the lower control arm and told me all fixed.
BUT GESS WHAT!!!!!!!I STILL HAVE THE NOCK!!!!!!!!! AND NOW MY STEERING WHEEL IS AT 2 OCLOCK PISITION. They told me I will have to get it alignment done to it. They will not pay for itunder the factory warranty. I find that to be Bull S$$t.
They all so told me they can not keep throwing parts at it. They can not do any thing for me until some thing BRAKES!!!!!!!!! So I should get use to the noise and live with it. Come back to them after what is making the noise brakes!!!!
I am not felling good about this!!

sound like a bad sway bar link, pretty common prob on the ram 1500 trucks.

 

They did both sway bar links and right front shock.
The shopI took it too get the front end alignment heard the knock and said that they would like to replace the right front upper control arm just because every thing else was replaced in the right front end but that and it would cost an extra $355.00 pulse the alignment. I said for get everything and I just take my truck back.
I just love that no one wants to find out what the hell the knock is. It seems like hanging parts it the thing to do any more.
I only have 21000 miles on it.
