+1 on the Diesel. I have a hemi mega cab with 35's a leveling kit in the front is all you need to fit them in there. I have pulled a 7000# trailer with it and it will do the work , but it is not ideal and if I was doing it all the time or on a regular basis I would opt for the diesel. Oh by the way I havn't re-geared that is just running stock 3.73.
Hope this helps ya
B

For all of those who know. Will a 03 2500 fit 36's with a 4in lift?
According to my sources, 4" will clear 36s but you'll have to do some minor trimming, 5" of lift will clear without any trimming...

id really recommend the diesel but if you cant which is understandable due to price, go wit the hemi but not the 37's esp if your pullin. esp without changin the gearing. jus get the 4" wit 35's. even then you may still want to switch out the gears. but wit the 37's youd get like 7 mpg ha. exagerated but still

yeah I might reconsider the 37s. It doesn't look like I will get the diesel now after all(long story)
I am thinking about going with a 5in and 36s then... possibly a 4in with 35s. I will regear it though for sure so thats why I am opting for the 36s.
I don't pull the trailer that often at least. So as long as it CAN pull it at a cruising speed of 80 at the most then I am ok with that!

It will pull great downhill. With the regaer it will pull it I am sure, but ask your self this. how much is the gas difference in mpg goign be be from the Hemiand the CTD. the extra money will pay for it self if you are going ot lift and tow. Both respectable trucks but for your application I would go Diesel.

Why not a clean 2nd gen diesel with the 24v?

I don't have a lift at all it's just stock with 3.73 gears I believe. I pull a 6000 kg trailer sometimes and I thought it pulled it pretty damn good. Thats when it was all stock. Now that I've done the exhaust and CAI it has way more power I think it would pull it no problem now. Not sure about the mpg though never really kept track. I've ordered a superchip I hope the towing mode will help out in that respect.

Hey Austin,

It really sounds like you WANT big a## 37's and lifted to the sky.....just do it. You are going to need 4.56 gears to pull the big/tall tires. Since you only tow every once and awhile, don't sweat it, just cruise when your towing and be happy looking down at everybody, you shouldn't tow a fast speeds anyway.

The Hemi has good torque but at much higher RPMs than the CTD, again, just rev the baby, they really like it.

If budget is an issue, the Hemi will let you do more upgrades with the money you save not getting a CTD. Chances are that you will buy a new truck long before the value of the long life of a CTD starts to pay off.

Just my opinion, but it really sound like you need a truck that has a certain look, and if that is true, thats the only thing that is going to satisfy you. Sometimes logic has nothing to do with what you WANT to do.
