Default Need help with a new exhaust

Hey everyone.. Im Pete.. Im new here. I have been looking around for a good exhaust system for my 04 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi... I dont know much about performance parts for trucks as far as whats good and what is not. I am looking for something that will sound good However, I dont want it to be insanely loud. Just enough to make it sound a little better and let you know that its there. Any help would be grately appreciated.

Thanks

Just browsing around and saw the post and I am interested in the same kind of thing. Im just looking for a muffler that is not loud at all. I want it to be as close to stock sound as possible. I want high flowing and high performance with very very little sound? any suggestions I have looked at magnaflow and flowmaster but they seem to be too loud for my taste.

Welcome to the forum guys, am sure some of the guys with exhaust systems will chime in here. The only ones that I have heard on a Hemi is the flow masters and they sounded good. Not too loud but not too quiet either. I run the flow masters on my Mustang and like them...

I like my magnaflow. Sounded great with only the rear resonator on, just a little quiet for my taste. So i cut off the rear, and it sounds great now. Now that i tow alot its a little loud.

So that my reccomendation. Magnaflow, cut off the front resonator, and make up your own mind on the rear one...

Good luck, and welcome

I have a Flowmaster 40 series but I only have the 4.7. IMO it sounds great. Not too loud but it still rumbles real nice when you get on it. I really like it because it doesnt drone at all when I am cruising.

I say Flowmaster 50 series. I think thats what I had on my 01 Ram with the 360. I know it's a totally different truck but still. It was loud outside but a nice deep tone to it and not too loud but inside you had to listen to hear it. If you had the radio or anything on at all you couldn't hear it. With the windows down you could hear it but it wasn't loud. People were suprised when they got inside after hearing it outside and always commented on how much quieter it was.

When I had my exhaust redone the mechanic and I both thought that I had a 40 series and I wanted the same thing so the 40 is what we put on. It is quite a bit louder inside the truck although outside it doesn't seem all that much louder but I guess it is. Slightly different tone. Inside you can constantly hear it if you are on the gas and if you have the windows down it really roars. With the radio on you can still hear it unless you turn the radio up. Its not too loud you can't talk over it but you definately know it's there. I like it okay but I liked the 50 better. I guess thats what it was since it clearly wasn't a 40. Sometimes I wanted the 50 to be louder other times it was perfect which it was most times. This 40 fills in where I wanted it to be louder but a lot of times I wish it was quiet like the 50 was.

No flowmaster is "quiet." Even Magnaflows, which are quieter than Flowmasters, are "loud" to some. It's all relative.

Lastly, the flowmaster are fairly restrictive when it comes to flow.

I was told by my local shop, wich sells both brands, for the same price.

that magnaflow is better for power, flowmasters a good for being loud. (but were only talking single digit hp numbers here) they just reccomended the magnaflow because it would flow better.
