Default gear ratio???

I have an 04 QC 4x4 hemi and it has the off road pkg. it came with the 3.92 axle as opposed to the 4.10............so what does this mean. I assume it means that i have lower gears for "off roading" where the 4.10 is geared for the highway. Please give me some info. Thanks!

It's the other way around man. Higher numerical numbers=lower gear. 3.92 is the most common all around gear. 3.55 is the Higway, dont tow ger ratio.

not sure about the 1500's but you can get the 3/4 and 1 ton's with the 4.10's. 4.10's and 4.56" are the most common gear change on the 1500s for guys that tow, or have big tires, or both.

I am switching to 4.10s when i put my trutrac in.

in the next year or two i may have to tow 1-2 vehicles anywhere from a few hundred miles to cross country. is it worth it change gears or can i get by with the gears i have now. what would be the benifits of getting the 3.96 changed out for the 4.10?

none really - for the amount of money you will spend in the gear swap going from 3.92 -4.10 would not be worth it IMO - if you are wanting more gear go to 4.56, you will get your moneys worth then.

If you are happy with what you have now then keep what you have - if you are only going to be towing something once or twice in a year then there is really no point. Are you going bigger in the tire dept? If you are going to go to bigger tires then yes I would regear, but for what you described, personally I would keep the 3.92.

yeah, swapping gears is a expensive undertaking for a 4x4. 1000-1400 installed. For towing there is nothing wrong with your 3.92's it wouldnt be worth the expense.

I may go bigger tires in the future with a lift kit, maybe a 4-6 inch. would i really need the gear change then. what would i feel in the truck if i keep the gears at 3.92 and got the lift with bigger tires?

well, it depends on the size of rubber your going with. if your gonna run 35's, and tow everyonce in a while you will be fine with your stockers. If you wanna go bigger like 37's, or you want 35's and are gonna tow quite a bit, or want to keep you mileage you should probably run 4.56's but a 37" tire or above you will need gears.

if you keep the 3.92 gears and the bigger tires you will feel sluggish.
