Is there a way to tell if your Ram has a LSD? Is there a designation on the vin number anywhere? I tried checking by lifting the rear end up while it was in neutral and turning one wheel. I assume if both tires turned in the same direction it has a LSD but I just wanna confirm this by a few other people before I change the rear axle fluid myself.

 

burn out... if two marks, you have LSD, if not then you don't have it. lol

i forget wether both wheels spin same direction or oposite direction means lsd i think its the same direction. from what i remember mine does anyways... and i have LSD.

 

burning out is definately the fun way to find out! but if you don't need the info right away - try emailing your VIN to Chrysler at this address: customerassist@chrysler.com Request your "build sheet". It will take 2-4 days for them to get back to you but when they do they will send you an email that will detail EVERYTHING your truck came equipped with including LSD, ASD, axle ratios and more. I requested a build sheet for a different reason (a recomendation from someone here on DF) and found it to be a VERY useful piece of information. i'd recommend everyone request one, print it out and save it - trust me - you'll be surprised how much you end up reffering to it! good luck - ride on!

 

I sent a buildsheet request to see if my Ram had LSD as suggested... This is the information on the rear axle:

3.92 Axle Ratio
Corporate 9.25 LD Rear Axle
Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle

Is the anti-spin differntial the same thing as LSD?

Yes, it is. A faster and easier way would've been to set one wheel in something slick (wet grass, sand, gravel, etc.) and goose it (not punch it). If it moves out for you, it has LSD.

 

my understanding is that the LSD is the "oldschool" mechanical way of sending traction to the opposing wheel when the driven wheel starts to spin whereas Anti-Slip is the computerized way of detecting free-spin in the driven wheel and electronically initiating traction in the opposing wheel. they both theoretically achieve the same end result... one just uses a computer to get there... and you know what happens when computers get involved.

 

yeah I was dissapointed after reading the thread, damn title is misleading.

LSD anti spin posi same thing just diff mfgs use diff terms, think ford is posi and tchevy is LSD. Toyota calls it auto LSD.
Buy an arb air locker and be done with it LOL would be nice.

Gonna go post about THC "the hemi chicks" eh it was the best I could come up with.

 

If you turned one wheel and other turned the same way, you have LSD.

Check you glovebox for a sticker.

 

Opposite direction? That be some funny ****, think getting your rear wheels to spin in opposite direction are only avail from Ferd.
